Has anyone read it? I did and I loved it. I just finished the second book in the series, Shadow of Night, and I was not impressed.
Opinions?
Re: A Discovery of Witches
I really loved ADOW, but am still on the fence about SON... It didn't quite draw me in the same way the first book did, and while a lot of stuff happened, it didn't seem to move the overall story of the trilogy forward very much. That last book is going to have to have a TON of content to wrap everything up, because it didn't seem like much got resolved in SON.
Also, I didn't like both books starting out with "Diana really isn't good at magic" and then through no real discernible reason becomes awesome at magic. Like, at the end of the first book it seemed like she was totally controlling what she was doing, and then at the beginning of the second book she completely loses all of that power and has to relearn it? Hard for me to buy. Also, with the main reason for them to go back in time being for her to learn how to use her magic, I thought that there would be a lot more to that story line, other than "she finds some witches, finds what kind of magic she has, takes some lessons, and can now do magic."
I don't know, I really liked the 2nd book, but maybe because I also like historical fiction. But I see what you guys are saying. Generally speaking, in trilogies I think the 2nd is always less exciting than the 1st and the 3rd.
Am I the only one who keeps thinking about the fact that Matthew is immortal and Diana is not? And what is going to happen with that?
That keeps coming up for me too! I wonder how it is going to work out. I also wonder about the babies. How is everything going to end?
I also enjoy historical fiction but this was a bit different. I didn't NOT enjoy it but I thought it could have been better. Hopefully the third will be extra fantastic like the first.
Re: Diana not being immortal- I freaking KNOW! It seems like it would at least come up at some point, but none of the characters seem too concerned about it.
And I totally didn't mean to imply I didn't like SON. I just didn't get quite as sucked in as ADOW- which I pretty much read in one REALLY long sitting
I thoroughly enjoyed SON on it's own, but as the follow up to ADOW, I was expecting more.
I am DYING to find out what happened to Em o.o
I am confused! I wanna know! What are these books about!??

Super simply, they're about a history professor who also happens to be a repressed witch meeting a vampire. All the books are super historical fictiony- lots of history lessons thrown in, which I love. And they're definitely not as eye roll inducing as a lot of supernatural fiction, which I also like- Definitely give 'em a try! I haven't recommended it to someone that didn't end up loving them
