Our honeymoon was at Disney World, we've traveled a little here and there, but nothing outside of Mexico and the States. I was thinking Hawaii (which was my dream honeymoon) but people keep telling me it's too expensive and there are other great places to go for that cost.
Any suggestions? I would say our budget with flight is about $3-4K for a 7 day trip. We do have quite a few miles and two years still to save (our 8 year is on the 24th) for flights and hotels, but I like to do research and start planning ahead of time. ![]()
Thanks!
Re: 10 year Anniversary ideas?
Exactly - rather than staying at a hotel - rent a house/condo from vrbo.com.
Hawaii is PERFECT for an Anniversary, it's definitely doable for you, don't believe the hype, lol! It's our fave vacay place; total paradise and has something for everyone!
Check Travelzoo often for deals, also join LivingSocial, Groupon, etc., I`ve seen good deals come up on those sites as well.
hawaii is def doable, and i don't think it's anymore expensive than anywhere else these days. airfare especially. gosh, we are going to florida (we are on the east coast) and air alone was $300 each. Hawaii,i believe (or at least i did before, it's been a few years) you can get for about 500-600.
and renting a condo is a good idea too. we did that for a month about 5 years ago and it was about 2-3 gs. it was gorgeous, right on a golf course, walking distance to the marriott hotel, which we would still use the amentieies like the beach, pool, hot tub, bar, restaurants, etc since we made friends with the workers and they never gave us a problem.
other ideas: costa rica, australia, greece, italy.
have fun!
You can absolutely do Hawaii for your budget, and you won't regret it. It's an amazing place. Our first trip was six nights in Oahu. Because we were on a budget, we limited our time to six nights and stuck to Oahu (I think the most affordable island, and also probably my favorite). We've since been back and visited Maui and the Big Island.
My biggest money saving tip is to start tracking airfare to Hawaii. Flight prices vary a lot. You can easily pay $1200/ticket from the midwest. But on our last trip we bought tickets for less than $500/person out of Michigan. It's doable, if you keep an eye out for deals. Set up alerts on your favorite flight tracking website (I like Kayak), start familiarizing yourself with the prices, and be ready to buy when you see a good deal.
