Does anyone here have BCBS PPO? What do you think of it and how easy is it to understand, etc? We currently have Priority Health HMO and I have a $20 copay for counseling, $20 copays for medications, free med checks for the meds that I am, a copay for office visits, specialitst, etc. I just want to see what everyone's experience was/is with BCBS, etc. It's going to royally suck if I have to start paying more out of pocket stuff than with Priority Health. If it's that bad, I have to go off my medications and that's not something I should be doing.
Re: Insurance Question
We just started with BCN HMO and the copays are higher. I don't like HMO AT ALL. I had to change every single one of my doctors. EVERY one.
However, I had a BCBS PPO when I was self employed & before I was married & never had a problem with it. The co pays are likely to be the same or higher, but at least there are in & out of network options if the person you want/need to see doesn't take the insurance. That is really screwing me over on this new plan. We're going to pay a lot out of pocket just because the kind of doctors that I need aren't available in my area.
I would definitely ask a LOT of questions beforehand so that there are no surprises. I ended up having a meeting with DH's HR lady, insurance rep, VP of company, etc. because I was asking all sorts of questions none of the employees had thought to. Before we signed anything, though, I wanted to know the plan as much as I could. Make a pain of yourself, it is there job to answer your questions.
Here's the only insight I have for you:
If you love your current counselor and wouldn't want to change, find out what his/her credentials are. If your counselor is a Licensed Professional Counselor, BCBS won't pay anything. Folks are working to change this, but change is slow. If you are flexible with your counselor or if he/she holds a different license, this isn't an issue.
