Charting Question

So I had my IUD out the other day.  I want to start charting again because we are going to use the NFP method along with condoms.  How do I start my chart?  I haven't had a PP period yet and I don't want to wait until I get one if I don't have too.  Anyone with experience in this department?  I want to use fertility friend again because it is easy and when I go to create a chart it asks for the first day of my LMP and I don't want to put October 10, 2009...

Re: Charting Question

  • I would personally just start with the day you had your IUD out. Once you start having regular cycles again it should begin to track it better. I found that FF was a PITA when my cycles were regulating themselves after having Wyatt, because they gradually shortened overtime rather than going back to 'normal' right away. I just had to pay extra close attention to my body and take what FF predicted with a grain of salt.

  • I agree with C, I'd start one the day you had the IUD removed, start temping or whatnot, and then start a new cycle when you do get a period.

  • Agreed. Iud is the first day. It will be enough info to get you started.
  • Thanks everyone!  I'm weirdly excited to start this whole process again!

Haha I was really excited when I started charting. It's fun to know what's actually going on with your body and amazing that a simple temperature read can tell you do much.

I agree with the the others said. I started mine when I stopped bc but I also had a bc related period then which helped. Maybe just be extra careful with sex until you know it's more accurate.

I didn't know the IUD stopped periods.

    Good luck!

I love charting! I could stare at those charts and drive myself crazy for hours! I had to force myself to stop. Such a loser... My sex life looked like a science experiment but I just loved looking at the data.

The IUD has different effects on different people. For some it can stop or shorten their periods. For some it makes their period less intense. Then for others it can make their period longer, more heavy, and makes their PMS way worse. It really depends on your body and the type of IUD you get.

I have Mirena and my experience has been awful.

I had Mirena too and I hated it.  I bled every day for the first 9 months and then it just stopped.  I have taken a pregnancy test every month since October because I was freaked out I would get pregnant and not know and then something would be wrong with my baby.  I'm so glad I got it removed and I will never have it again.

  • I had a similar experience, Tara. I bled for 6 months straight, then it stopped for a month, and now I bleed for a few weeks to a month, stop for a week or so, then it starts again. I have also had insanely strong PMS symptoms like major exhaustion, breasts so sore I could barely wear a bra, cramps that hurt so bad I couldn't stand up, etc.

The fact that I was bleeding like a stuck pig was the only reason I never took a pregnancy test.

The doctor told me to give it a year and see if it calms down and it hasn't so I'm having mine taken out next week and we will be charting to avoid and using condoms as well.
