All Inclusive

My husband and I would like to stay at an all inclusive resort in November for our anniversary.  Except we are unsure where to stay.  I like some in Cancun, but am a little nervous for travel to Mexico.  I also think there will be alot of young twenty-somethings around too.  Anyone know of a good adults only all inclusive there?? We would like to have a lot of restaurants to choose from and a great beach.  Ive read about good resorts elsewhere, but the ones in Cancun seem to catch my eye.  Anyone been to a resort other than Cancun that was great

Re: All Inclusive

  • We stayed at The Royal ( Real Resorts ) in Cancun in '10 and loved it so much that we are going back next year. It's AI,adults only,20 min from the airport, gorgeous beach and several resaurants and bars (it's also #2 on tripadvisor). the only downsides are although the balconies are labeled as private ( meaning not shared) they may or may not have full walls separating them (some are just railing and some are one full wall and railing) it just depends where the room is located. Also, it is a bit pricey especially depending when you are going. A royal corner suite runs just under 4k for 7 nights in April.

I have a review and pics in the link above my siggy pic.

  • how bout jamaica? We stayed at The Jewel Dunn;s River in Ocho Rios and had a great time!! it was our first time at an AI, so we don't have much to compare it to... but we liked it.

its adults only... and smaller than a lot of the other resorts, so its nice and relaxing. they had i think 5 restaurants there, plus a brick oven pizza place, and little snack grill with sandwiches, nachos, etc   one night they did "dinner on the pier" for everybody- a 6 course dinner outside under the stars- almost like a wedding. it was really nice. all of the food was very good.

entertainment was good- an awesome steel drum band one night, bonfire "show" with a firedancer, etc one night. another night they did  a "dive in" movie where they put up a HUGE inflatable screen in the pool and you could sit on the pool chairs or in the pool and watch the movie.

the staff was REALLY great!! So friendly and a "Whatever you want" attitude :-) one of the beach guys even climbed up a tree and got us a coconut so we could drink the fresh coconut milk :-) They also will take you on one of their "Hoby Cat" sailboats over to James Bond Beach (where Dr. No was filmed) and do a "photo shoot" for you.... all just for a few dollar tip. that was fun.

we only stayed for a long weekend ( like 4 nights) so we didn't explore off the resort at all... but we had a really great time, and i think its worth checking into!

We stayed at the royal in playa del carmen for our honeymoon in 2009 and every year since! Either location will be fantastic. I liked PDC sine you were in a resort yet you could walk right to town for nightlife and shopping. The area is very safe and there are a lot of police patrolling. 5th avenue is a shopping strip closed to cars and there are always plenty of people out and around you. Also, getting to the hotel you travelled on highways and directly into town so you didn't have to go through any shady neighborhoods or areas.

  • My husband and I go AI every year! Our favorite is The Excellence in Punta Cana, DR..they do have an Excellence in Mexico too so I'd def check that out.

We are headed back to the DR in October, trying the Paradisus this year and cant wait!

  • Any of the Couples resorts in Jamaica are fabulous. We have been to Couples Negril twice and recently got back from Couples San Souci which is now our favorite.

Couples Swept Away tends to have more of a younger crowd, so if you are looking to avoid that, stay away. Check out their website www.couples.com . Oh, and when you are searching for flights, you will fly into Montego Bay and then Couples provides a shuttle. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm not over here as much any more, but I'll try to check in. Have fun!

  • I stayed at Dreams Tulum a few years ago.  You fly into Cancun and take a shuttle bus about 90 minutes south.  It's worth every minute.  Mayan ruins, quiet, beautiful beaches.  Dreams was incredible.
  • Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica! We honeymooned there, it was fabulous, honestly everything was top notch and the resort and beach were super gorgeous!

  • We also loved the Royal in Cancun.  I just got back from the Royal Playa del Carmen yesterday - I loved that we could walk out of the hotel and be in downtown Playa, but the rest of the experience underwhelmed me compared to the Cancun location.

Also have a look at Excellence Playa Mujeres and Secrets Maroma.

  • We stayed at Iberostar Grand in Rivera Maya several years ago.  This place was to die for.  Adults ony.  Check it out on tripadvisor.com.

  • Not sure what your budget looks like but....Le Blanc is amazing. Its adults only all inclusive AND ALL INCLUSIVE SPA!!! ahhhmazing. It's absolutley gorgeous and the waters in Cancun are crystal blue, as opposed to Rivera Maya...not as blue. I'm also a spa product junkie and they give you all Bio Silk Products in your room. Also each floor has its own personal butler to do anything for you, make your reservations, have champagne and a hot bath drawn for you, literally anything you want. First class service.

  • We stayed at the Excellence Rivieria Cancun (they also have one in Punta Cana as someone has mentioned as well as Playa Mujares which is another area around Cancun)

I would highly reccommend an Excellence Resorts, they are consistently rated very high (my resort is #1 on tripadvisor, definitely a website you should check out) and everyone I know to have stayed at one, raves about it. The food is AWESOME!!!

Our price was 2000, about half of which was airfare from BWI. We stayed 4 nights. I booked through Expedia.

Secrets and El Dorado are other lines I would look at.

For our honeymoon, we stayed at Jewels Dunns River, except it was Sandals back then, it is a great resort! Everything is so right there...like I'm in the pool, I'm on the beach, I'm in another pool, there's a bar, there's another bar, the bathroom's right here, look another pool

If you're a beach person (like as far as the water goes), Cancun and Jamaica didn't do it for me, but Punta Cana is the best!

  • I can heartily recommend Excellence Punta Cana in the DR, and Secrets Maroma Beach near Playa del Carmen.
