Munich: What shouldn't we miss?
DH and I are going to Cyprus in October (my parents live there part-time), and plan on stopping somewhere for a few days on the way back. We are thinking Munich - neither of us have been to Germany, and I've heard great things.
If we only have 2-3 days, what shouldn't we miss?
Conceived after 1.5 yrs. Thank you, modern medicine!

Re: Munich: What shouldn't we miss?
PP is probably talking about Hoffbrauhaus. Definitely touristy, but fun for a quick stop.
On our trip to Munich, we took a day trip to Dachau. It's about 45 minutes away by train and makes for a thought provoking trip.
Some info. on our trip to Munich is here, in case it's helpful to you: http://www.traveladdicts.net/search/label/Germany
If you go in early October and Oktoberfest is still going on at least walk through the grounds (it ends the first weekend in Oct).
There are a few bike tour companies that meet near the fountain in Marientplatz ch morning (I forget the time but I found out about this on tripadvisor when we went so you could check there). I thought this was a pretty good intro to the city and they all end up at the Chinese beer garden in the park which the pp mentioned. If you don't like biking I saw a few walking tours going on as well.
We climbed to the top of Altepeter (I could be wrong on the name, it was 4 years ago). Anyway, it's one of the tallest steeples in the city and there were great views and photo ops from the top.
I loved the Hofbrauhaus for at least one drink (food is terrible though). The paulaner beer hall was also fun with better food and maybe slightly less touristy. I loved the Viktualmarket- you could buy snacks from the indivual stalls and then sit in the biergarten and have a little meal.
There is a ring road tht goes around the old part of Munich, and most of the tourist attractions/museums are within the ring. Most of it is walk able and the public transit is excellent and easy to figure out.
We did a day trip to Dacchau and it was worthwhile. If you only have a few days though it does take at least half of a day and you may be a little down afterwards and not up for doing a lot of other things in Munich. However all that being said I'm glad I went, guess I'm just saying if you do go plan on that being most of your day.
