so i'm going to vegas in two weeks to celebrate a dear friend's 40th birthday. she has expressly asked me NOT to get her a gift, since flying out to vegas is our celebration plan.
still, she's turning 40. she's gone through a lot in the last year. and she is an all around awesome person who deserves a little something.
but she's the toughest person to shop for. she's not huge into fashion, she's read every book ever written and she's a brilliant cook -- aka, the williams sonoma queen. and i'd like to get her something a bit more personal than a gift card.
thoughts? suggestions? maybe i should just forget all that, and plan something for her while we're in vegas? tia!
Re: Can I get help with a gift idea too?
Adopt an olive tree for her!

Someone on my local suggested this, and I love the idea. They ship olive oil from the tree in Italy twice a year. It's supposedly delish.
I like the idea of doing something special while you are on the trip.
Order champagne and/or some luxurious snacks of some sort to be waiting in her room upon arrival.
I have to say that's a fabulous idea. I may do that for myself.
Take her to the "Thunder from Down Under"!!!
Seriously, I love the tree idea.
The tree idea is awesome.
Along similar lines, I'm getting these gift baskets for some family members this year:
https://www.canaanfairtrade.com/products-page/olive-oil1/canaan-fair-trade-basket/
Just add bread and you've got yourself a fair trade party! And add a stew for the couscous, and you've got a fair trade dinner! Contains: 1000ml tin of Nabali olive oil, 250g jar of Green Olives, 250g jar of Tree-Ripened Olives, 350g jar of Tahini, 250g pack of hand-rolled and sun-dried Couscous, 150g of Almonds, and 150g of Za'atar, all in a handwoven basket of olive twigs made in the ancient Palestinian tradition.
Not only delicious, it's also helping farmers in communities that have been caught in the Mideast conflict.
lol @ meredith. now you're talkin...
seriously, i love the tree idea! thank you. i might just have to snag that one for my folks. my dad would love it.
i also dig the fun vegas ideas. champagne. maybe a spa day? i'll keep thinking. thanks kids...
