Ok, I have a shopping day for myself coming up, and my wardrobe is in need of some major revamping. The area I need the most help in is what basic pieces do I need, and how can I coordinate them all together, or with things that I already own?
Here's the rundown: I have to be semi-dressed up for work (ie-dress pants, nice top, but no suits or anything) so I like buying tops that can also work on the weekends. On the weekends, it's all jeans (if I leave the house, I think we all know that I'm a big fan of not getting out of sweatpants in my house if I don't have to leave)
I'm terrible at accessorizing aside from a pair of earrings or a scarf here and there, but I'm open to learning
I consider myself to be very thrifty, but I'm open to paying a bit more for basic pieces that will last a long time. Trendy stuff I tend to get at Old Navy, Target, etc...so that I don't feel bad ditching it later on. My other store go-to's are Gap and Express, or places like Marshalls/TJ Maxx.
So...where are what are my best bets for my needs? What pieces are classic and will fit and wash well, so that I'm not getting rid of them next year when they're stretched and faded? Picture examples are encouraged!! Thank you!
Re: Fashion help needed, please!
I spend more on bottoms, since I wear them more than tops. My go to are Banana Republic and J.Crew because they fit me and I know what styles are flattering. Most of them are machine wash (I wash in cold and hang dry and have no fading issues, heat is the devil) but a few pairs are dry clean only. I also like Lands End/Lands End Canvas but I definitely have to try them on. As for adding a bit of "spice" I love colored bottoms. This spring I bought kelly green and cobalt chinos and I adore them. I also bought red and coral cropped pants that I wear all the time. For fall I am eyeing Lands Ends new Ankle Chinos in cobalt and red
For tops, I like Gap sometimes, Banana Republic, J.Crew, Lands End and Lands End Canvas (both in Sear at Ross Park, upper level entrance by Old Navy). Although, I did get an amazing top at J.Jill for our family pictures. It is a white tee (a bit dressier) but it isn't at all see-through! It is amazing. And I love Lands End/Lands End Canvas cardigans. They wash great and if something happens they have an amazing return policy. Although, you usually get better deals online and returns are easy to Sears.
Don't discount the ease of a nice dress. Go neutral and add a scarf and/or cardigan. I love them because they are easy, one thing and your done. In the winter, wear with boots and tights. Lands End has a bunch of cute ones right now.
As for accessories, for fall I love a nice jacket/blazer over a nice tank or tee. It is a step up from a cardigan but not a suit. Plus, in the early fall it serves at outerwear. i usually go for a neutral that isn't black (grey, navy, tan) or a punch of color usually red or pink.
I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to Outfit Inspirations and Clothing Wishlist.

I am a big order 2 sizes and return one with them. I think their bottoms are pretty TTS, I am usually a 6. Their tops and dresses run a bit large. I use the reviews as my guide, they are usually pretty spot on.
Like I said, the return process is pretty simple at the LE counter at Sears. They also have a ton in store, so I usually try on there and order because I usually have a coupon. The current one is 25% off one item: CODE: CREW with the PIN: 1850 ends tonight at midnight.
I love the fact that if something happens, I can take it back, no questions asked. I got a skirt last year that I washed according to the directions(cold, gentle, line dry) and it the green ran into the white. Took it back, credited my charge.
