Interview tips?

H got called for an interview today! It's an amazing opportunity at an amazing company so we (maybe me more so,eek!) are so excited! Any interview tips? It's been several years since he's interviewed so while I have my own list of advice to give him, I'd like to compile a list from others! Thanks ladies!

Re: Interview tips?

  • A firm handshake, turn the cell phone off, and wear a nice suit. Bring another copy of the resume and have a copy of references. Sit up straight and look the interviewer in the eye. These things will help exude confidence. Try not to use words "like," and "um." I know it's so easy, but if they are used too often it doesn't sound confident. I think confidence is key. If he has confidence, then the interviewer will see that and have confidence in him.

Good luck to your H! And let us know how it goes.

  • This is something that sounds super silly, but I swear it works.  Before you walk in, smile for 60 seconds. You will feel so dumb with a silly grin on your face, but you can do it in private.  It really just makes you more positive going in there.

Also, practice typical interview questions at home (i.e. what are your strengths/weaknesses, how do you feel about affirmative action, or other aspects of the job?) and have some stories ready to be told.  A lot of times they say "tell me about a time when..." and they want a real specific story, not like a general "well, i would encounter people like that..." They want something like "Once this customer came in and asked for this and this is what I did and told him," whatever.

    Good luck to your hubby!!

  • PPs offered awesome tips! What is the job? I would also think about questions that might be asked about the job, or his experience with the job.
