Getting the new house blessed
Has anyone or is anyone planning on getting their new house blessed? We are but have never been to a house blessing before so does anyone know how it works?
I assume we just have our pastor come out and we pray over the house and bless each room but not sure???
Any thoughts on this process are appreciated!
Re: Getting the new house blessed
Yes. Generally, a person of the cloth comes and meets with the family and says a prayer over the home asking God for protection of it and its family, blessings of hospitality, health and safety, and binds out evil.
My DH and I haven't ever done a formal house blessing, but we have prayed over our most recent one and the first house we ever owned the first night we moved into them. We did not pray over each room.
Some people who do this will also bring oil and annoint the rooms or holy water.
I thought about doing that with our new home. Instead as we were building it, I took a black sharpie and blessed every room in writing. I'm sure the contractors thought I was nuts but who cares!!
I wrote things like (kids rooms) Bless this room with love, peace, faith and peaceful sleep. stuff like that.
I think it's a wonderful idea!
