lala

Thanks for posting the behavior coin chart.  It's working great so far.  We started it on Monday and Thursday was the first day she didn't get a sticker in the morning (we do a sticker in the morning because bedtime was an issue for us) and I think it hit home.

Last night she went to bed like a dream and was asleep by 8:45.

Thank you!

Re: lala

  • I'm so glad it's working for you!  I looked at a bunch of different charts before picking this one.  DD picked out all of her "coin" pictures so I think she kind of has ownership over those and doesn't want to lose them.

The chart got a little lost in the shuffle during the move, so we have to get back on track with it.

What are you using as prizes?  I'm always looking for something new.

  • The first one is a trip to Chuckie Cheese.  I don't know where she heard about it because she's never been there, but she really wants to go.  So I figured it would be a good first incentive.

A trip to the library is also a prize--we don't get there nearly enough, but she loves to go.  So I figured this would be a good way to do something (for free) that we should be doing anyways.

I haven't gotten beyond that yet, as I thought it may take us awhile to get there.

What is your big takeaway if she loses all 6 coins?  We haven't had that happen yet, thankfully, because I haven't come up with anything yet.

  • The Chuckie Cheese thing is so funny.  DD is dying to go there also.  She sees the commercial on Sprout. We're saving that for when she finally poops on the potty.

I love the library prize.  I'll be adding that one.  We are going mini golfing tonight (weather permiting) that's her current prize.  We've also done ice cream and getting to go on Sprout online (she loves playing the games on there).

We've only gotten to the big take away once.  She always watched a show before bed, so that's what we took away.  I feel like it should be bigger but I guess not getting to watch Doc McStuffins is pretty big to a 3 year old.

  • Butting in to say thanks for posting it too. I think we are going to implement it soon. I already am doing my own chart and we are towards the end of finishing off a goal to get to a prize so I may start it once that is completed. Dd has been acting up a lot lately so I'm hoping it will help

  • The thanks should go to Pinterest!  I don't know what I would do without it!

  • I finally had a chance to read the post about the coin chart. It looks very interesting and it is something we could do with both kids...I'm going to share it with DH and see if he wants to try it. I think initially it will be more work for us...but would be worth it if it works! :-)

Although we've already seen some improvement in Todd's bedtime. I realized that if he can't go to bed in a reasonable amount of time then it would be a natural consequence for us to not wake him up in the morning in time to watch a show. If he goes to sleep late, then we would need to have him sleep later in the morning to make up for it. Since I have explained that, he has been stalling less and last night he was asleep before 8:45 as well!

I struggle with taking this away, because I know it would lead to complete meltdown and would prolong bedtime.  And at this point I'd be out of ammo (coins).

I agree, but at this age I don't really know what else I would do.  Although, I have to say, after it happened that one time I think she knew we meant business.  If you come up with anything better let me know.
