Our family reunion is next weekend. My parents generation brings the main part and my generation usually brings a side/dessert. I'm sick of all my sides except maybe baked beans. If I do those I'd definitely bring a dessert.
We aren't traveling far and there are outlets so hot or cold is fine.
Re: Need potluck ideas too
This is what I usually take to potlucks these days. I can get a 32 oz bag of shredded slaw mix at SAMs Club for a great price so you could make a double batch if you want. I usually have an empty bowl to bring home.
ASIAN SLAW
Toss in large bowl:
1 (16 oz.) package slaw mix
1 bunch chopped green onions
1 cup sunflower kernels
Mix together well, then stir into slaw mixture:
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup apple or red cider vinegar
contents of both Ramen noodle flavor packets (oriental flavored)
When ready to serve, stir into mixture:
2 (3 oz.) packages crushed Ramen noodles
1 cup sliced almonds, lightly toasted and sugared*
*To sugar/toast almonds, put almonds in a sauce pan and coat with sugar.
Cook at medium heat until they toast and the sugar sticks.
Girl, you know what my suggestions are going to be, so I'm not going to make them :P I haven't made anything new in ages, so I don't have anything to recommend besides my usual corn salad and pasta salad. (They're down the page if you want them.)
Sorry
I've failed you and the EI board

This is where I admit I hate anything buffalo with the power of a thousand suns. I've been doing a similar asian slaw for years and while I love it, it's one I'm sick of making. I'm leaning toward the corn salad because corn is soooo good right now. I also have a sweet potato salad (with no mayo) that is also really good.
Tarheel's mint brownies will be on the dessert table.
6 - If you like... I can print out recipe for Danish Potato Salad and/or Cucumber Salad that I always do.... just let me know!

What?! I'm not alone!!! How did I never know this about you? I hate buffalo things as well! I was convinced I was the only person on the planet.
And I always forget about those brownies, but you've latched onto them and made them a favorite of yours. Maybe like I've done with your apple cake - I can't wait for fall to make it again! I'm bringing it to a family thing in October and I'm looking for other excuses too

What's your cucumber salad? It is as steamy here as the 4th circle of hell, so a cool salad sounds divine.

I completely understand, but remember, as long as other people like it, it's not a problem.
I would love the cucumber salad if for no other reason than our garden is exploding with them!
As for the buffalo stuff- I worked at Applebee's during 10 cent shrimp and wing fest then a bar that did quarter wings monday's. The smell of buffalo makes me think "bad tip" over a decade later. Ugh those shirts, pants, and even undergarments had a special place in purgatory between laundry days.
My ILs are picky eaters and love those mint brownies. They request them so I make them. I've never made them for my family because every other family event requires me to make peanut butter blossoms or saltine cracker cookies. Now that I've mentioned those I want them. Hmmmmm.
Hi! Here it is:
Cucumber Salad
Ingredients:
3 - 4 Peeled, Thinly Sliced, Cucumbers
1 Tablespoon of Kosher Salt
1/2 Cup White Vinegar
1/4 Cup Chopped Dill - or more
3 Tablespoons of Sugar
Pepper to taste
Place Cucumber slices in colander. Sprinkle with Kosher Salt, toss to coat. Let stand 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Meanwhile, for dressing, stir vinegar, dill, sugar and pepper in a large bowl until the sugar is dissolved.
Drain the cucumbers well. Pat dry. Add cucumbers to dressing and stir to blend. Refrigerate at least 15 mintues.
This recipe is adaped from Anna Pump's book "Summer on a Plate" - which I love. When I make this recipe I usually double it and if you make it the day before can take liberty with it and increase the cucumber to dressing ratio.
Enjoy!
