Hey just looking for some advice...I've gained 7 lbs or so since the wedding and I would like to lose that and a few more pounds. I've done weight watchers in the past and its worked for me but I was thinking of looking into different things. Have you guys ever done a diet program that has worked really well for you? I need a program that's flexible - I'm not a big fan completely not eating certain foods because I crave them then. Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Weight loss...
June 2012 August Siggy Challenge: Favourite Pro Pic (I couldn't choose just one!)
Is there a reason you do not want to go back to WW, especially if it worked for you before?
The only two that I have had real success with are WW and the Curves weight management plan (Curves now has Curves Complete but I do not know too much about it). Both basically follow the same ideas about food and tracking what you eat.
I personally found that WW fits my life better, and has, therefore, been more successful for me.
ETA: In addition to these, I also work out at least three days a week at Curves then walk the rest of the week. The exercise definitely helps.
I use SparkPeople. I used it to lose my weight, and I use it now to keep it off. Tracking calories in and calories out is really the only thing that works for me. Exercise makes a huge difference in my motivational levels with eating right.
I highly recommend using the SparkPeople website because it's free and it's wonderful. They have some newer features, like a personal coach, that are pay-based, but I found the totally free portion of the site to be more than enough.
I used their nutrition and fitness trackers, and then I also would connect with other people at similar places in their journeys as me through their blogs, message boards, and pages. I also thought their articles were really great information.
Also, gotta love SparkRecipes!!
The best thing I have ever done is just count calories, limit what I eat, and exercise.
No other "diet" has ever worked long term or short term.
First Look
I am constantly up and down in my weight. Lately I have been keeping the weight down so I'm happy.
What works for me (besides diet pills) is just not eating fast food! And trying to drink only water. It really helped me. Also just exercising a bit can help so much in the long run. Try riding your bike or just doing some crunches while watching tv.
I try to drink A LOT of water when I feel a few extra lbs. I like the think I drink enough water as is, but when I feel a little extra weight I really up my water intake, it seems to help. I'm like you in that I won't limit myself from any food, just try to eat in moderation.
Thanks for the advice!
Tiffany - I'm not opposed to going back to WW, it did work really well for me before. Maybe I'm just itching for something different. I'm kinda old school about it, the last time I did it was before points plus and I would have to get all new books if I wanted to try that and learn the difference. Is there a big difference between the older version and the newer version?
sosaystara- I actually just signed up for sparkpeople this morning! I really like it so far so I think I'm going to try that and I might go back to WW if I stop being good about it. Sparks people seems easy because I have the app and it told me how many calories I can eat to lose weight. Did you use the app or just the website when you lost abunch of weight before?
Thanks! I think I'll do that, too. Is this what you used to lose all of your weight on your tracker?
That's amazing, congrats!
I'm such a picky eater that none of the fad diets work for me. I lost 40 pounds in the span of a few years just by watching what I eat and exercising. Counting calories is bad because then you obsess over it and worry more about how many calories you are putting into your mouth as opposed to what you are putting into your mouth.
Buy lots of veggies. Veggies fill you up without giving you many calories. When you make dinner, give yourself a reasonable portion. Any leftovers put into a container and put it into the fridge before you even sit down to eat. That will prevent you from going for seconds. When you're out shopping try to make healthier choices (skim milk instead of 2%, nonfat yogurt instead of regular yogurt, whole wheat pasta instead of white pasta, low fat pretzels instead of chips, etc).
Don't deprive yourself. If you crave something, eat a small portion of it as soon as you can. Otherwise it just builds up and then you cave in and gorge yourself. Just make sure it isn't a common occurrence.
Go for walks whenever possible. Even just that will help. I have a medicine ball and a couple of dumbbells at our apartment to do a little weight training (muscle burns calories quicker than fat does! Or something like that).
I've found that this is the best way to lose weight and keep it off. It's a lifestyle change, not a temporary fix. After a while it all becomes perfectly normal to you. Good luck!
Omg! You and me both! I hate it....I ended up going out for my best friend's birthday last night and that made it super hard to stay on track. Good luck!
I've been on Weight Watchers on and off (mostly on) for several years. I hate change and was VERY reluctant when the Points Plus program started. I did not want to have to relearn everything and I just had a really negative attitude about it. My WW leader encouraged me to give it a fair chance, so I did. To my complete surprise, I actually ended up loving it. I also lost weight more quickly and FINALLY reached my goal weight on the Points Plus Program. I think you should give it a try. You said WW has worked for you in the past. You also said you wanted a change. Well, this is the best of both worlds because you know it's a successful program, but you'll get the change you're looking for since the Points Plus Program is something new.
My mom lost over 100lbs on WW, and I've lost 40. And we've both kept if off. Needless to say I'm a big advocate for WW. It really does work, and is probably the most flexible option out there.
