We went to a cookout on the 3rd and I brought
this. Delicious! We didn't do anything on the 4th itself. What'd you do or make?
Re: Share your 4th!
Hi! Happy 4th of July. That looks amazing...
Went to the IL's and brought this:
?Chinese Coleslaw?
2 bags chicken ramen noodles (broken up)
16 oz. package coleslaw (cabbage or mixed cabbage with carrots)
? or aprox. ? head of cabbage washed, drained and shredded
1 bunch green onions chopped
1 cup sunflower seeds
? cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup white vinegar
2 flavor packs from ramen noodles
? cup sugar
Mix each group separately and then mix together. Chill.
Everyone LOVED it and it was easy.
Cheers!

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
We were supposed to have our neighborhood picnic Saturday and I made this. Friday night 80 mph winds knocked out everyone's power so the party was rescheduled. We dumped our stuff and headed to my mom's for 3 days.
After that I didn't want to make the effort so I made pretty much what wejust posted. My dressing has 1/4 cup water and there is a cup of toasted slivered almonds. It must have been a hit because there was almost nothing left. 2 people followed DH to the door and asked for the recipe.
ETA: The picnic was a lot of fun. The neighborhood we've moved to is incredible. However it was stupid hot yesterday. After ~3 hrs I had to spend the rest of the day inside feeling like poo. DH spent the rest of the day trying to make a dent in the 2 trees that got knocked down.
I stuck to my menu I posted the other day. The Bobby Flay recipe for the Southwest Potato Salad was delicious and I got a ton of compliments on it. My mom brought a cole slaw that had craisins in it and that was so good.
It was so hot that about 25 people didnt show up so I have enough brats to feed H and I for about 3 months.
I also had a 32 piece grilled chicken from a local grocery store and there was not a single piece left.
Since H had the firework accident a couple years ago, we obviously no longer touch fireworks. Instead we got these sky lanterns ant they were a big hit and provided some silly entertainment.
Hi! Been "Down the Shore" and am just now replying...
re: Tarheels - that's so funny! My sister gave me the recipe last summer - I am always looking for "Beach/Pool" food.
re: 6fsn - Hope you're feeling better... it is really tough losing power and the heat etc. would love a copy of your Almond Cole Slaw recipe as well.
re: Wine Enthusiast - cannot BELIEVE that 25pp CXL'd. That would drive me crazy... what is wrong with people?
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

We served many drinks, salt and pepper cashews, apple and onion tart, and some store bought chips salsa and queso for easy pickings. Many friends brought something, which was really nice, lots of sweets like brownies and cake. You can see photos here:
