Disney w/a 3yr old

We're palnning a trip to Disney World in either March or April with my extendend family.  Need some tips and advice for the parks and overall suggestions.  As of now my DD naps but who knows what she'll be doing then.  Was thinking of going early to park then coming back for a nap then back out for dinner...but who knows...maybe nap it in the stroller?  Still trying to figure out places to stay...another thread!  TIA Smile

Re: Disney w/a 3yr old

  • I think getting there early is the best idea.  We are going in Oct with DD who will almost be 4 and DS who will be 18 mos.  We plan on getting to the parks at rope drop or 30 min - 40 minutes before they open and taking an hour to an hour and a half break at the park for lunch.  I also pray that they can sleep in the stroller.  However, on the day we plan on going to the Magic Kingdom, the park closes at 7.  If they were open later, we would probably do like you and leave during the busiest and hottest part of the day.

This blog is my favorite Disney blog and the guy will tell you which park is the best one to visit every day of the year.  He is always in the park and gives tons of tips and takes loads of pictures.

  • I was hoping mine would nap in the stroller too but I think I waited to long for the down time and they were over stimulated.  We got there before the park opened and had lunch at noon.  My mistake was I kept going after lunch and I should've had the down time then, they probably would've slept even though it was before their usual nap time.  So get there early, and do the nap time/down time earlier than what you'd do at home.  They will exhaust quicker at disney!  We ended up leaving the park for good around 2:30-3:00, they missed the parade but they were a mess.  We were only there for one day because we were visiting relatives nearby.
  • If staying at a Disney resort/hotel you can leave and have lunch there if you want. Or leave imediatly after lunch for nap time. You can always go back for the late day/ evening festivities or go to Down Town Disney if you just want to shop.
  • She will nap likely nap there even if she does not at home. Get there when the gate opens and go straight to what is most important to you, Winnie the Pooh line gets really long and is a nice ride. If you are not going to the parks everyday then plan character meals outside the park for the days you will not be in the park so you do not waste time. Make a written game plan so you are not sitting around figuring out what to do next but be willing to change it especially if DD is loving something or not liking something else. My kids can do two shows in a day but not more. Oh, and dont be surprised if she does not like what you expect and likes other stuff better.

  • 3 year old shouldnt have a problem napping in the stroller.  I would recommend magic kingdom, seaworld and definitely look into doing legoland which is 45 mins away. Legoland has lots to do for small ones. Hollywood studios has more shows which is great if they like it especially one featuring most disney junior characters.  Seaworld has an elmo and abby show which 3 year olds would like.

Also look into the orlando childrens science museum.

Try to get to the park early, nap in stroller, leave by 2 or 3pm. have an early dinner then go back for fireworks.

  • we went to dis when my dc was 2, 3, & 5.  & we just got back from another trip down there, which my dc is 5.5 but we didn't do disney only seaworld and universal.

i would stick to just disney for 3. universal and seaworld i think are better when they are a bit older.

my dc was always able to nap in the stroller.

we planned a couple days in between parks for down time and stayed by the pool to give his little feet (and ours) a rest.

have fun!! my dc had a blast each time...which is why we keep going back, lol.
