We're going to Thailand later this year and are looking for recs on places to stay.

We'll be visiting Chaing Mi, Bangkok, Krabbi/Phi Phi Island.  Any recs are greatly appreciated.

Re: Thailand - Places to Stay?

  • There are a ton of options depending on your budget. If you are in the mid to upper range as far as class of resort/hotel, you may want to check jetsetter.com

I love Krabi/phi phi island but I honestly don't remember the name of the resort I stayed at and in Bangkok I stay with family.

Have fun, it's an amazing destination.

  • We were just there in December.

Bangkok - We stayed at the Millennium Hilton.  I definitely loved being on the river.  There's a range of hotels - if I could have splurged, I would have loved to stay at the Mandarin Oriental or Peninsula.  The Shangri-La also looked really nice.

Chiang Mai - We stayed at the Aruntara - great little boutique hotel but not centrally located.  It was a short, inexpensive tuk tuk ride to the city center/markets.  If you want to be close to the night markets, have a look at the Shangri-La or Le Meridien.

Krabi - We splurged here for sure and had the most amazing time at the Tubkaak.  Can't recommend this place highly enough.  The rooms are gorgeous, service incredible, excellent food, and the beach is to die for.  One of our favorite hotels ever.

I definitely have lots of recommendations for tours, excursions, etc., so let me know if you need anything else!  I mostly post on "the other board" though, just check here occasionally. Thailand is my absolute favorite places - have an amazing time!

  • We LOVED Le Meridien in Chiang Mai.  It's really central to activities and has a great relaxing rooftop pool.  I would highly recommend it=O)
  • reviews and plenty of pics in blog (link in siggy) we loved every single hotel we chose while in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Phuket too. HTH
  • I agree that the Millennium Hilton in Bangkok is the place to stay.  They have a convenient free water shuttle to the other side of the Chao Phraya where the dinner boats are as well as a small shopping mall.

If you are looking for a good tour guide, try Tours with Tong.  Plan well enough in advance as she and her team are very busy!

If you have any other questions or need booking tips, hit me up!  Just returned from Phuket in May.

  • Phi Phi Island is amazing. We stayed at Phi Phi Island Resort Hotel (I think it was called). My only advice there is to NOT take the general public ferry over. It was THE WORST boat ride I've ever been on. I know there is a speed boat you can take (our daughter was 1 at the time so we were advised not to take that) but the hotel also has their own catamaran. It costs a little bit more but was SO worth it (we took it back to the mainland as I told my DH I would rather swim back than ride on the ferry again).

We left from Phuket, the other place we visited in Thailand, and it is a great town too. Lots to see and do and tons of cheap places to eat. Do be careful of drinking the water though!
