Lightweight Stroller Rec?
I was so thankful that we got the Maclaren Triumph as a shower gift b/c it was the thing I *thought* I wanted most from my registry.
We've been using it for about two months now, and I don't love it. I actually don't really like it at all. I think it "drives" weird. I hate that it doesn't have a tray, which I didn't realize when I registered. Maclaren doesn't have trays for any of their strollers.
It doesn't look comfortable for G and it doesn't recline. I'm so disappointed, the Maclaren was recommended by almost all the moms I know.
I'm looking for an alternative that costs around $100 or less. Any recommendations?
Re: Lightweight Stroller Rec?
I also like my Maclaren, but I do occassionally wish I had a tray for it. And there's not much storage underneath, but that's rarely a problem for us.
We have a Chicco Liteway that I really like, although it does not have a tray. Chicco does have a light weight stroller with a tray, but I think the price is in the $140 range (although between sales and 20% off coupons, you could probably get it closer to $100).
If the lack of tray is the main feature you are missing, are there any trays/accessories available that you could purchase separately for your stroller? I do agree that in a few months you might find that you don't use the tray as much as you do now.
i was wondering this as well. we've registered for the city mini but know that we'll have to purchase the tray (and/or belly bar) separately. maybe there are accessories to purchase for the maclaren?
Maclaren doesn't sell trays for their strollers, but they do sell a bumper bar, which I didn't realize. I googled a few weeks ago and found a site claiming that a specific type of Baby Trend replacement tray would fit on the Triumph. Of course, I googled it again just now and cannot find the post.
I don't have too much of a need for the tray now, but I was thinking more in terms of when he's a bit older for snacking or playing with toys.
Do you moms of older ones not really need/use the tray?
well i had the $80 chicco capri
I couldnt see the point of ( anyone ) spending over $150 on an unbrella stroller, but I wanted something better than the $20 ones that look like toys!
it doesnt have a tray either and that was never really a problem for us. We had a cup teather we attaced to the side and that was that. What is the point of liteweight if you are going to add all kinds of stuff and bulk it up???
It doesnt RECLINE really, but it does have a zippered release in the side that seemed to be enough to keep Adam from slumping forward when he was youger.
I loved it and really couldnt see spending any more on something that appeared just as good! it folds easily it has a shoulder strap and bag .As soon as he was out of the infant seat I stopped using the large stroller for things like trips to the mall and always used this. even for walks. We would take the big one to the zoo or Kennywood say, so he had more confort for the longer period of time and the tray and all that. but mostly used the lightweight.
I just loaned it to a friend for their vacation because she didnt have one and she loved it too!

We've never had a tray for our umbrella stroller (I just have a cheapy $25 one from BRU, it's held up for 4+ years); I would just hand Jake a cup or baggie with a snack in it and he'd hold it himself.

Thanks, ladies! I really appreciate the insight! Maybe I'll just keep at it and see if the tray thing is a big deal for us or not when we come to that.
I really appreciate it!
I have the Chicco Cortina that came with my travel system, and I actually like it. (Even though travel systems get a bad rap!) We don't do any really hard- core strolling, but I even liked it when I spent a week with it last year on a (very very hilly) college campus with an 8 week old. It did not disappoint this year either on the same campus with a 14 month old. (Although I only had him for 3 days this time...more due to his lack of sleeping in an un-air conditioned dorm than the stroller!)
It reclines almost completely, which I really like. It folds relatively well. It's definitely bigger, but it isn't too heavy.
I use the tray a good bit. I didn't haul my high chair to said college campus, so I used that for him to eat. I've also used it at the zoo for him to eat off of or to put snacks on. I guess if I never had one I wouldn't miss it...but I wouldn't buy a stroller without one now. (Other than an umbrella stroller.)I love my Maclaren (even though I don't use it anymore!) I think it pushes like a dream.
We also didn't use the tray much as DD got older. She'd hold her cup, and if she had snacks - it was in a bag or snack cup.
