post-partum/post-BF'ing period

Did anyone have their period NOT return while on regular hormonal birth control after stopping BF'ing?  I stopped BF'ing Liam around the end of June, finished up the pack of minipills that I was on at that time, then immediately started back on regular hormonal BC after that.  Going by the pills, I should have started my period 2 weeks ago (which would have been my first post-partum period) but it never came.  2 pregnancy tests (spaced out by the past 2 weeks) have been negative, so it's definitely not that.  I spoke to the nurse at the gyno's office (mainly because I just wasn't sure if I should start the next pack of pills or if I had to wait for a period to start) and she said that it might be my body returning to normal after BF'ing that long, but it could be something else if it continues.

Anyone else experience such a delay?  With Jake, I was back on track like clockwork once I started back on regular birth control.

Re: post-partum/post-BF'ing period

  • I'm on Mirena. My period has definitely not been on any regular schedule since Todd weaned in April. If anything it is more irregular than it was while he was still nursing once a day.

  • I haven't been back on the BCP since I had Lanna, and I haven't weaned Wes yet. But, my periods are also more regular when I'm nursing.

This completely. I love the Mirena, but miss the knowing exactly when AF was coming and for how long.

  • i had a similar situation happen to me. i didn't get my period for a month while i was on bc and that NEVER has happened before.  the midwife put me on a higher dose of birth control (i was always on a low dose) and now my periods are back to being regular.

not sure if this has anything to do with things or not but months - 1 year later? i was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.  i have no idea if hypothyroidism could have had anything to do with it or not.  just reflecting on how my body has changed since having my son....

  • It's amazing how different every woman's body is after giving birth!  I'm going on 2 years now of no period, and while I'm not complaining, it's definitely strange to me to be totally done BF'ing, AND be on BC and still not have one. I guess I'll just see what happens, I think I'm supposed to get it the week after next again.

  • That seems like a lot of hormonal changes all at once, the weaning followed by the BC switch.  Hopefully by the next inactive week of pills your body will be all situated into a normal zone!
