Anyone on a gluten free, dairy free diet?

I'm having a party next month and one of my friends is allergic to dairy and gluten. Any recs for recipes or good store bought apps or desserts? I've looked at a few recipes online but I'd rather go with something someone has tasted before. I also don't want to make a lot/buy a lot because it's just a small girls party and I don't want to get stuck with a bunch of stuff other people won't eat. TIA!

Re: Anyone on a gluten free, dairy free diet?

  • I made these GF chocolate cupcakes. They were pretty good.

ETA: Mine weren't dairy-free, but the recipe says how to make them dairy-free.

  • I've had some pretty good ice cream called Soy Delicious, but you'd have to check to make sure they are gluten free. Also, TJ's sells some meringue cookies that are GF and DF

  • Wegmans has a great selection of GF and dairy free items too.

I just started a GF diet, but I'm not super strict (i.e. if there's a possibility of cross-contamination I'll still eat something).  I know that chips (corn) and salsa would work, but I'm not sure if the chips would be dairy free.

    Veggies and hummus?

  • Raw veggies and hummus is a good option. Maybe some sort of mini taco dish with salsa and no cheese? I think corn tortillas are dairy free, but I'm not 100% sure.

Chocolate covered strawberries would be great for dessert. Just make sure you use dark chocolate and the label indicates it's dairy free. Lots of brands add some milk into their dark chocolate to cut the bitterness. There are also a couple of local vegan bakeries that have GF options and you could pick something up at.

ETA: I have also made this before: http://chocolatecoveredkatie.com/2011/05/31/deep-dish-cookie-pie/

I thought it was alright, but I don't like oats in cookies. Everyone else ate the entire thing. They said it tasted great.  It really did taste like an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Super easy to make, too.

  • My friend owns Freedom Bakery in Severna Park. May be worth checking out.

  • Yeah, as PPs have said: fruits, salads, veggies, hummus, corn and rice-based chips, guac, salsa, dark chocolate, sorbet.  It is probably better to just have naturally gluten/dairy free foods rather than buying specialty gluten-free stuff. Unless you want a cake, then there are some decent mixes out there.
