XP: Family Friendly Campground

I'm trying to fit a weekend camping trip into the remainder of the summer - we'll see what luck I have!

Does anyone have recs for fun, family friendly tent camping in MN? The kids are 4.5 and 7 so we're looking for something within a couple hours of the cities if possible. Somewhere with walking trails and swimming for sure, but other kid activities would be nice as well! TIA!

Re: XP: Family Friendly Campground

  • Cannon Falls Campground - very clean, paved roads, swimming pool

Shades of Sherwood in Zumbrota - clean,, two pools (one is sand bottom), mini golf, bouncy thing

Kieslers in Waseca - pool with water slide, mini golf, lake across street

Kamp Dells in Waterville - waterpark pool, petting zoo, horseback riding

Not sure when you plan on going but I would make reservations soon. Campgrounds fill up quickly this time of year

I feel like this campground is crazy crowded, FYI.

  • I've gotten great reviews from friends who camp at Shades of Sherwood.
  • I usually camp at state parks. Almost always cheaper than private campgrounds, and better amenities in many cases. I've found private campgrounds to be very crowded.

St. Croix State Park is a good one for families - swimming beach, playgrounds, easy hiking trails, canoe rentals, etc.

Or Sibley State Park - also great for families. Swimming beach, playground, easy hiking trails.

I've camped at both of these places with my nephews when they were younger or similar age to your kids.
