Besides Wholefoods....

Also, who had that info card about the best and worst types of fish to eat?

They are delivering to Phoenixville, Devon and Media this Saturday.  Specifics are here: http://tinyurl.com/cqjeq53

And you can download the MBA Seafood Watch as an app for your phone. I have it on mine.

  • Thanks and thanks!

I was really excited to see the app on the website and I downloaded it right away. I'm really trying to be more conscious of what I'm eating, where it came from and how it was treated. Which reminds me of the Portlandia "Is it local?" clip. That show is hilarious!

OMG, this had to be one of the more hilarious segments of Portlandia. And, the cameos were AWESOME at the farm.  Love this show.

  • NQ: also check out Bryn Mawr Farmer's Market--Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. I think that's more convenient to you than the Forks Delivery locations, right?

Here is last week's Bryn Mawr Farmer's Market email: http://tinyurl.com/cox8wwt

  • I use the Lancaster Farm Fresh co-op store, you order online and choose your pick-up site

eagles, we are lffc csa members and the weekly share email from early Aug indicated that they closed the co-op store. I have no idea why, but they indicated they are looking at other options.   :-(

  • NO WAY!  I never got an email, that is so weird.  I hadn't ordered in a couple weeks, only because my pickup site got switched to a house I can't walk to (even though it is only minutes away, with 2 kids there is a big difference between loading them in the car and just walking over)

That sucks, what a bummer.  Er, do you know if the Bryn Mawr farmer's market sells milk?  That is what I miss the most from LFFC

I saw this too and was super bummed.  I wonder if it was under utilized and that's why they cut it?

  • We do the vegetable CSA at Saul Highschool (it's called Henry's Got Crops), and they also do a meat share in the fall/winter. I guess you get it all at once frozen, which works for us because we have a big chest freezer. I don't think the milk is officially organic, but the animals are all pretty much free range and fed hay/grass/whatever, and only given antibiotics if they get sick. I don't think they give them any growth hormones or anything, but you could ask to be sure. The cows live on the farm on Henry, across from the high school, while I believe the pigs and chickens come from Weaver's Way farm.

We've gone and talked to the farmers that take care of the animals, and I feel comfortable eating the meat after seeing the animals and seeing where the animals are cleaned/prepared. The students at the high school learn to clean the meat as part of their education. I also like supporting the school and farms, so we are planning to do the meat share this year! Right now we buy some meat there when we can get it, and other meat (organic and not) at costco.

IDK about Bryn Mawr and milk sales, I've never been.  Our market has a goat milk (kefir) stand, but I have not become that adventurous yet. eSyn might be able to weigh in.

I am so bummed abotu LFFC b/c this is the only place we were getting our milk (the chocolate milk is to die for!). Mr erbur picked up the share last night. He talked to our pickup coordinator last night and she indicated receiving an email about the possibility of dairy, eggs, and meats being sold again.

I am still waiting on a reply from LFFC re: the balance of our account--we had 5 or 6 bottles yet to return and I wanted to make sure my account was settled up. I'll let you know what comes of it.

  • Erbur and Eagles - I believe the milk was from Trickling Springs Creamery.  They do sell it (in the glass bottles too) at Whole Foods near me (Plymouth Meeting, Jenkintown and Montgomeryville).

Actually, I just looked at the farm's website and you can do a local store search: http://www.tricklingspringscreamery.com/

And yes, their choco milk is AMAZING.

ETA - and try their butter too!
