pre-pregnancy books???

Me and my husband have decided that start TTC on our 4th wedding anniversary (which will not be until next May). I still want to do research and make sure that we're considering everything before TTC, however. Anyone have any great recommendations on books that are great for pre-pregnancy? I'm looking for info on what I should consider BEFORE I consider a baby, how to prepare (mentally and financially) for a family, etc.

Re: pre-pregnancy books???

  • Can't recommend a book, but have your doctor pull titers to make sure your vaccines are still effective.
  • I read "What to expect BEFORE you're expecting" and I thought it was helpful.
  • I would suggest you not do a ton of research into this. The best thing you can do is start taking folic acid, and lead a healthy lifestyle. Reading tons of information about how to prepare for it is very stressful, and will make you worry about things you wouldn't have thought of otherwise. The more stressed out you are about TTC, the longer it may take. Being pregnant and having a baby is a major life event, but people have been adjusting to it for centuries upon centuries. You can prepare all you want, but in the end you will do what feels right for you and your family.

  • The getting pregnant board would probably be more help.  They all suggest reading Taking Charge of your Fertility. Not sure about others. Why don't you hop over there and introduce yourself.

  • Many ladies recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I bought What to Expect Before Your Expecting and What to Expect When Your Expecting. There is info in there too for your man.

Yep. All this. Perfect response. Babies shake things up. There is really no way to prepare except to read about pregnancy stages and the like. You may consider beginning a baby fund to use to buy baby stuff. Just enjoy sex!!! Don't worry about what may or may not be happening.

  • I'm in this stage right now and I just went and talked to my gyno.  I asked questions that I found on The Bump.  She was very helpful and brought up things I wouldn't have thought of.
  • I read What to Expect Before Expecting while we were TTC.  Even though you aren't starting until May, good luck!!

  • I read the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy.  It has information for prenatal, pregnancy, and postpartum health.

  • I talked to the doctor few weeks back, she recommended not worrying ab out the books.  But looking at how to prepare for a baby, such as budget, research childcare, baby fund (for everything you need), time management, maternity leave..IDK that alone can keep you going until May.
