Re: thoughts on disney's animal kingdom lodge

  • We love it! We've stayed there twice now and I think we will go back at least one more time before TTC. The lodge doesn't share a bus with any other resort. Also, since it's a deluxe resort, the bus stop is usually one of the first terminals at each park. It's a bit far out from everything, though, so you'll want to make sure the kiddos have a bathroom break before going to and from a park. We once sat in front of a family and the poor little boy had to use the bathroom really badly and it was a 45 minute bus ride.

The lodge has a really nice pool. It is a bit dark inside, but that doesn't mean you can't see where you're walking. There are a bunch of activities on site for days when you want to skip the parks. You can also hang out at various spots around the premises to watch the animals if you don't get a savannah-view room. Everyone raves about the breakfast buffet at Boma, but we liked dinner there better.

  • We stayed there recently and while the resort is absolutely gorgeous, DH and I both felt it wasn't worth the extra money. We did get a savanna view, which was very cool but it's not like we were able to really hang out in a room for long periods of time with our 2 y/o DS, kwim? And I agree with PP, it is kind of far from most of the parks.

Our favorite resort so far has been Caribbean beach. Just make sure you pay a little extra to get a preferred room.

    Have fun!

  • We stayed there for a week in May 2011 and really enjoyed it.  We just booked a standard room and were worried it would be a parking lot view but we actually had several animals near our window.  Our 2.5 year old loved to see the animals.  I wasn't crazy about the restaurants on site but the pool area was nice and we didn't have issues transportation to parks either.
  • I stayed there a few years ago (loved the hotel!) ... and I remember at night we went out back to look around, and there were some hotel staff out there with night vision goggles they were letting people use-- and we could see the animals roaming around!! It was SO cool! I'm not sure if they still do that- but I would be sure to ask!!
  • Love it there. I thought all 3 of the restaurants were awesome (Boma for breakfast is fantastic) if you're a little more adventurous. They have a lot of really cool activities for the kids throughout the day too.

  • we just stayed there in Dec for my sons 5th bday and we LOVED it! It is such a cool place, i love the feel too, its very rustic feeling and just gorgeous. the restaurants are fantastic, we love boma. they also have a kids area, the simba house, that my son loved, where you can drop them off for a few hours if you want and go have dinner at one of the restaurants sans kids.

and def go out at night and do the night vision thing to watch the animals.

the pool area is great too and they have games everyday and also a waterslide.

    have a great time!!
