Right now we're in the process of saving up but we're trying to decide whether to buy or build our home. We know this home will be our forever home.
What are the pros and cons of each? (I'm completely new to the real estate scene)
Re: Buying or building?
If we could afford it, we'd have built vs buying because: building means you can decide on features, layout, contact directly with builder instead of wasting time with realtor browsing houses and putting in offers, etc. Only downside to building is the time spent, It can be months or a year for house to be ready, if you buy an existing house, your closing date is usually 30-45 days after offer's accepted.
In the Boston area, it was cheaper for us to build our house rather than buy a similair one already built. As stressful as building was, I wouldn't have had it any other way. I love our house, it has everything I could have ever wanted. I highly recommend building. It took 3 1/2 months for our house to be built.
