Thursday Say Anything

What's on your mind today?

Re: Thursday Say Anything

  • I'm annoyed by the people who treat FB like they are inspirational speakers and post constantly about how inspired and grateful and blessed they are, etc.  yay for you - can you just post about where you're going to dinner and say it was great!

    • DH had to come home from work today b/c he was puking and having some other awful symptoms. I'm praying it's food poisoning and not a virus or something I can catch. My friend's wedding is Saturday and I'm really looking forward to it.
    • I really need to eat better. I've been going to exercise class 5-7 days a week since May and I haven't lost any weight. I know I've gained muscle and I'm tighter and stronger but I would at least like some progress to show on the scale. It would be really helpful if DH wouldn't always insist on making/ordering greasy fattening food every night. Lately I've just tried to eat cereal with fruit for dinner.
    • I think next payday I'm going to start the "envelope" budgeting system the gals on Money Matters are always touting. Hopefully it will help me save more money.
  • I hate throwing my hair in a ponytail everyday. I wish I would make the time to do something with it, but I'm not sure even what to do. I also really REALLY want to get my hair highlighted but I'm afraid I won't keep up with it.

DH is planning to start P90X. I think it's great that he wants to get in shape because I think that's part of the reason he has so little energy and he's tired all the time. But...he goes ahead and spends all this money on a DVD set and workout equipment without mentioning it to me (sort of a gray area) and while I do hope he sticks with it, we'll just have to see.

I was all upset the other day because I wanted to by a bookshelf at Target but it was too heavy to lift and I didn't feel like finding someone to help me bring it to the register and out to my car. Which was just stupid, because I still want the shelf and I can't get it online due to outrageous shipping costs so DH and I will go back this weekend and get it. It's annoying that I was too...anxious?...to get someone to help me.

  • I have a headache today. I didn't sleep well last night with getting up twice with C. I thought for sure we skipped the four month wakeful, but I doubt it now.

This sounds like my DH. He'll spend all this time researching things and buying all this expensive equipment and then he'll do it once or twice and then stop. I keep sending him info on the local gym and spinning classes there but he keeps making excuses. You would think that failing his life insurance physical would be motivation enough but no...

  • I need a haircut so bad but my hair sucks and will look like crap no matter what I do. I mean it will look good after coming back from the salon, but that's it, because i don't have the time or talent to spend 45 minutes styling it. also DH hates when i cut it too short but i don't care and will probably do it anyway.

I hate that I have no talent when it comes to styling. I got my hair cut three weeks ago and guess what I did with it this morning?? I put it up in a ponytail holder. Embarrassed

  • I'm really anxious and nervous about a trip to OBX that we might be taking next July with family. Ideally, I'd like to be KU'd or have already had #2 but the time we go, but if i do get KU'd in the next 2 months, do I really want to bring a baby on a card ride that long? And if I'm KU'd, will I have enough leave to do this trip and take a 12 week maternity leave? We don't have STD at work. And how pregnant is too pregnant to not take the trip? I don't want to back out, since it would leave my other family members with the cost and that's not fair. I woke up in the middle of the night last night and it was all I could think about.

Gracie what is this envelope idea you are talking about on MM?

And SK I'm the same way with my hair. I actually have an email into my hair dresser to get it lopped off. Having short hair is the only way I actually get up and do it in the mornings.

You set a budget and then put a set amount of cash into different envelopes for things like gas, groceries/food, recreation/etc... The idea is that you will likely spend less if you use cash vs. card and once you're out, you're out. You can put any leftover money in savings.

Interesting. I may have try this.

  • I continue to be bothered by the fact that white socks end up in the laundry with dark wash jeans. E made the point this morning that the latest victims were his socks, so why do I care? And I know he's right, but I care because it's annoying and it shows that he's not paying attention/doing what I've asked him to do. I know I need to get over it. I really do.

E and I leave the house every day with at least 4 bags: his laptop, his lunch, my purse, my lunch. He often carries everything out the car (which is great, and I appreciate it) and throws it into the empty back seat. His laptop inevitably ends up on top of everything, smooshing my lunch and purse. Makes me crazy. His laptop is the only bag that would fit on the floor, so why not put it there instead of top of everything else? And it doesn't impact his lunch, since it's a hard-sided bag. His sandwiches are safe. Mine are collateral damage.

E listens to audio books on the drive home from work every day. I hate the things, but he's driving, so I don't raise a fuss. When we get to M's school, I go in to get her, and by the time I come back, he's turned the book off (not appropriate content for a 5-yr old). The next morning when we get in the car, I turn on the radio and the volume is blaring because A: he has to turn it up to hear the audio books, but B: he doesn't turn the volume down before powering the radio off. I *hate* loud noises and want to yell at him every morning. But I don't.

After all of my husband bashing, I have to say that the above annoyances are heavily influenced by my current state of irritability, which is why I'm venting them here and, aside from the laundry thing, I haven't mentioned any of it to him. He's been an absolutely stellar partner through all of this, doing so much around the house, taking are of me, etc. I'm grateful and know how lucky I am. And yet... annoyed-city. Poor guy.

Its a Dave Ramsey concept that is really good discipline for people trying to pay down debt and/or save.  I half-a$$ed tried it after I read total money makeover (highly recommend the book btw, even if you aren't seriously in debt because it really kicks you in the butt and makes you open your eyes about where your money is going).  Our problem was that we never had the time to go to the ATM and pull out the money and divide it. Instead we just set limits and said "We wont go over X amount for food this week" and tried to stick to that the best we could. But the envelope system definitely curbs spending.

  • LOL we tried the envelope system once. It was an utter failure.  The only thing that works for us budget-wise is just to put everything into savings first or our bill account (we have a SL/rent account, an account for our bills, a general checking account, and um, 3 savings accounts lol.)  so we always had extra discretionary spending in the general checking (the bills account includes things like grocery money, gas money, etc - all factored in.)  So we just spend whatever that extra money is (that is our eating out money, alcohol money and so on.)  so we've just had to up what goes into the other accounts to cut back on our overall spending. we have no discipline otherwise ha.

My two brothers got together last weekend without us and I'm irrationally disappointed that we weren't invited. We couldn't have gone anyway bc we had plans all weekend, but even so, I'm disappointed, EVEN knowing that it was a 'make up" for the time my brother had everyone at his house and my other brother couldn't make it.  I WANT TO BE INCLUDED DAMN IT!!!!

speaking of my brothers, my oldest is dating this girl - she is super nice and they live together.  I follow her on pinterest and she is obsessively planning their wedding.  They are not engaged (been dating since October.)  And I mean, she has gone to jewelry stores to try on engagement rings.  Now she has moved on from their wedding and is obsessively pinning things for babies.  For some reason this makes me uncomfortable and I can't really tell you why.

  • I'm tired - so, so, tired.

I have an irrational desire for a second kid, but I know DH is perfectly happy with 1. If we had 2, we'd have to pull DD out of her daycare and find a new place. That makes me anxious because I love her daycare, but we can't afford roughly $3k/month for 2 kids.

I applied for a PT job. Ideally, I'd like to do that instead of my FT job, but don't think we could swing it financially. So, I'm thinking I might try to do both. Oh, and I am definitely in the running for an interview, but I have to create some online stuff and it is making me a bit nervous as to when/how I am going to fit this in with everything else. (see below)

    Everything else

I am involved in an effort to start a co-op in Catonsville and it is *obviously* a lot of work. We're gearing up for a big marketing push this fall. I'm actually starting to get stressed about it.

My mom is *still* in the nursing home with no discharge date. They said they think she will benefit from 24 hour care, but my sister and I don't think she is getting any better. Mom says she has a UTI but the nurses/doctor haven't done anything about it. Mom also says that the things she likes best about the place is that she gets 3 meals a day, is never alone and they handle all her meds. So do we try to put her in assisted living when she gets out?

We're going on vacation this week. I am excited, but stressed because I have to do ALL the packing. DH even says that he "doesn't know what to bring". We're going to the beach and we need to bring food that we eat. How &@#$! hard is it to figure out?

  • My dogs are itchy, and I don't know why, and it's causing me to lose sleep.

I've done everything possible to prevent fleas -- they're on preventatives, we've given them capstar when we find a stray fleas, we've used anti-flea shampoo on baths.

So I thought maybe it was dry skin. We both the skin-soothing lotion and skin-soothing shampoo. Nope, still itchy.

So we thought maybe it was their diet. My boss suggested that some dogs are allergic to inexpensive dog food, so I bought expensive food with just six, real ingredients. Nope, still itchy.

They scratch all day and all night. They bite themselves until they're bleeding. They wake me up at night because they're scratching. I am out of answers, other than the vet's suggestion that they're both just hypersensitive dogs, and it will get better in the winter.

    ARGH.

I put my hair up nearly every day. It's really fancy for me if I put product in it and let it air dry in its naturally curly state. Lately, I've found it easy and a little better-looking if I braid the front section back into a ponytail/bun, but now I feel like I do that every other day and it's just as commonplace as just putting it back.

I feel like Pinterest has put girls' wedding planning crazy out into the open. I mean, I don't know how you were, but I definitely was planning my wedding since before I even met my husband (OK, I interned at The Knot, where it's impossible not to plan your wedding on a day-to-day basis, but still).

If Pinterest had been around back when I was 20-22, it would definitely have been REALLY hard to resist not pinning things for future reference. And I don't have plans to have a baby anytime soon, but I've for sure pinned a few baby-related things on a board titled "For the future."

    ARGH.

A long time ago on some reality show there was a woman with a dog that had itching problems, and after extensive allergy testing, it turned out that the dog was highly allergic to lots of random household items, including a sisal or jute rug.  Could it be something like that around the house, or maybe a certain kind of detergent that you used the last time that you washed their bedding?  If you can't figure it out and it's that bad, I would just take them to the vet.

My friend's dog is allergic to grass. Indifferent

The itching would drive me crazy too. I'm super paranoid about fleas crawling on me.

  • I'm sad that my ex has become a different person.  We always stayed friends because he was a good person, but I'm starting to really hate the bad person that he has become.  It's a shame.
