Hair color gone wrong...

I just need to vent about my hair. I feel so vain right now because I have been crying all last night and barely slept. I have washed my hair so many times trying to get the hair color I had done yesterday to fade.

Here is the story...

I have been wanting to do that ombre trend for awhile now but because of the wedding my hair stylist told me to wait. The last time I saw her she said not to do the ombre because in her opinion its just a bad color job. (I think she was right)

With my birthday just around the corner I decided to treat myself to a fancy-shmancy Aveda hair salon. I showed her the picture of what I had wanted before I made the appointment and she knew exactly what I was going for and I felt very comfortable.

I told her I wanted my natural hair color on top (I am a dark ash blonde) and then bright blonde underneath. Another stylist told her to go darker and it will lighten, which may be true. But now I have VERY dark brownish red hair on the top of my head with white underneath. I understand they thought I needed the "warmth"so they added the red tint, but I by no means have any warmth to my skin or hair. I have always been ashy and thats fine with me.

So now I feel like a skunk, white trash, and Cruella Deville.

Re: Hair color gone wrong...

  • Call your regular stylist and explain what happened. See if she can fix it. If nothing else maybe she can fix the white underneath. Sorry you hate it though. :(
  • Oh no! I'm sorry! I had to look up what ombr? hair style was because I don't really keep up with the trends. According to my research, they should have left you ashy :-( I'm sorry! As with all hair color, it will fade and it looks like a natural fade is exactly what you want here. Good luck!

  • Sorry to hear!  Honestly, I'd call the Aveda salon back and tell them how unhappy you are with it and that you want it fixed.  If you had a photo that you brought in, bring that back with you.

  • I am TOTALLY in your boat!!!

I had my hair screwed over at an Aveda salon this week as well- I wanted more contrasty highlights that were a little thicker (also because we were done with the wedding), and for overall to be more brunette looking than blonde.

I came out with four perfectly symmetrical, lined up bright blonde stripes on my head. One stripe was my bangs- Who in their right mind dyes someones bangs bright blonde???

I went back and made them fix it. Just tell them you tried live with what they did for one day, but really didn't like it and they should redo it for free.

I felt like an idiot being so upset about my hair, too- Just keep reminding yourself it's just hair and it's totally fixable :)

I agree with this. I am so sorry it didn't turn out the way you wanted :(

  • Thank stinks.  I'd call them back and tell them it's not at all what you asked for and ask that they fix it- at their cost.

My one girlfriend is a colorist and she once told me that if you ever turn out with hair that is too dark, to buy the cheapest junk shampoos  (the kind that they sell in walmart for 88 cents) and wash it a few times with that.  It has a high detergent ratio in it and will fade the color out.

  • Don't be so hard on yourself! Your hair is a big deal, it's why people put a lot of money into it and why there are so many products out there.

I agree w/ PP. Call the salon back and make them fix it.
