Opinions on table

I'm very close to trying this on our dining table, but just wanted a few more opinions before I pull the trigger...

I currently have a cherry table with turned legs (very similar to this one, but the top isn't as rustic) with black dining chairs and a black buffet. I painted our corner cabinet white to blend better with the trim in our new house, and now I'm considering painting just the legs of our dining table white to tie it all together. I think it looks really pretty in this inspiration picture I found -- thoughts?

Re: Opinions on table

  • It NMs, I think it looks kinda odd actually.

Our trim is all white and our furniture is a similar color to the table in the picture and I think it is fine.

  • Maybe I should just get a couple of these guys for the ends of the table to pull some white over.HENRIKSDAL Armchair IKEA Armrests for additional sitting comfort. Seat filled with polyester wadding and high back for enhanced seating comfort.

  • i don't think i mind the white legs with the white furniture & cherry top but I think the black chairs make it look odd.

  • I think I would go with black legs to tie into the chairs.  And I'm thinking the white corner cabinet would have the effect of a built in, if it matches the trim.  I do like the white chairs though, although I don't think they'd stay white for a minute in my house!

    Totally agree with Amy!

  • Yes, I painted the cabinet b/c I was hoping it would look more built in. Maybe I'll consider doing the black legs, that's not a bad idea.

The only reason I'd consider the white chairs is that we will acutally have a seperate dinette are where we'll be eating. The dining room in this house will only be used on Thanksgiving.

  • I'd actually leave the table legs as it and either use a white slipcover or a white seat cushion to tie in the white. If you can manage with the kids I'd probably add some white decor to the center of the tabletop too.... maybe a few milk glass jars/vases?

This is exactly what I was thinking too.

  • Please don't paint your cherry table legs.  If you get tired of the look it would be a real chore to strip.  Go with some chair slip covers and a white table runner or something.
  • I wouldn't paint the table legs. I think you'd regret it long term and I don't think the legs tie the table in with the white background furniture.
