Monday vents
All I wanted to do on my lunch break today was catch up on the Real Housewives of NJ, but the stupid Bravo site only has very random episodes of any of their shows. Is it asking that much for me to veg out and watch a little trash TV while I eat some leftover pasta?
Anyone else have a Monday vent?

Ugh, yeah I'm definitely having a Monday. Tim's car decided not to start this morning and after he had it towed all the way to the dealership they find out it's the battery and not covered under warranty. So annoying!
And our email is down and that is completely curbing any work that needs to be done.
ugh, those warranties drive me crazy...isn't that just the way it always seems to go? I hope your day gets better!!

At the risk of offending many--
I think it's rude to bring a frozen meal for lunch. Seriously 6+ minutes to heat up your lunch? There are only 2 microwaves on th entire floor, for everyone to use.
I can't believe how hard it is to rescue a dog!! Every rescue in my area seems to have such stringent criteria and I feel like I have to sign my life away for the application. Multiple places won't even bother with you if you have a kid. I get that they don't want people returning animals. But I feel like they eliminate some great homes by being so stringent. It's like you have to be the perfect home. Sorry there are probably few perfect homes out there but plenty that would love and care for a dog!
There are some humane societies that aren't as bad but we do need a dog that is good with kids and cats so we just haven't found a match at them yet.
Just annoyed! There are so many dogs out there that need homes and I feel like these places just discount people for so many things that may not be issues. I just want a dog for my kid!
Mine only take 2 mins and 45secs which I think is reasonable. . 6+ mins seems a little long!
I will ditto this. While it warms my heart to see all of the newbies and think back to that time, I will greatly miss the peace & quiet of the summer!!

I agree with this! I have no issue with people cooking their meals. I do take great issue with people leaving their meals in the microwave for 10 minutes after it is done.
Yes. that drives me crazy. And people heating up smelly food. I really don't want to smell your leftover fish.

I totally agree with this. After our doberman passed away suddenly I really wanted to rescue one. One place treated me horribly when I said we had a kid. Acting like I was a moron for wanting a big dog with a kid.
Umm...I know all dogs are different, but I had several dobermans, and I'm aware of the general temperment. Which is actually very good with children because they are so darn smart and loyal. And I think bigger dogs are generally better with kids than smaller ones because they don't feel threatened.
We ended up buying a doberman puppy because of the hassle.

I can totally see that happening! It's so unfortunate that they are so stringent! Apparently you need to be a stay at home non-working person so the animal is not left alone, but enough money to afford all their care. No retirees since you also need to be active and take them on their 5 daily walks. No kids of course. And a 6 foot high fence. Anything less is just equal to animal abuse.
We were at petco this weekend and the rescue there is one that doesn't like kids (which I didn't realize at the time). My dd very nicely and gently petted the 1 dog and the woman basically yelled at me. So ridiculous.
I get that they want to make sure they go to good homes but plenty of homes are good that they completely discount off the bat. And I can certainly understand being pushed into buying a dog instead.
We are flexible. We like golden retriever mixes (dh had one growing up). But looking for a medium sized dog that is affectionate and must be good with cats and kids. Not really avoiding specific breeds but don't want something really little or too big. Don't want a puppy and don't want a senior (would love a senior if it was just us but couldn't get dd attached to a dog that was older).
We have looked into rescues, but many wouldn't even consider us because our yard isn't fenced.
We have had a 75lb great dane/shephard mix(humane society), 90 lb English Lab, and 125 lb American Bulldog and all have been just fine without a fence. They have never ran away and were/are very healthy. But, no fence. So therefore we must really be sh!tty owners for only walking our dogs on leashes, the horror.
Us too! We don't have a fence because we don't have a dog yet!!! Dh wants to do an invisible fence when we get a dog but places don't consider that good enough. Which I agree with certain breeds or specific dogs it isn't the best but plenty do fine with then. But because we don't have a dog yet we don't have it yet obviously! Apparently you need to fence your yard prior to even having an animal.
Im glad I'm not the only one who finds the rescues a bit ridiculous!
We did find one that has approved our application but they still have to do a home visit. I seriously feel like I'm adopting a child! And there's like 20 different rescues in the area that all require applications and home visits. I just don't have the time to apply everywhere!
Not sure what rescues you have tried, but we have had success with Furkid Rescue - they are on facebook. They primarily rescue pit bulls, but often save other breeds as well. Most of the pit bulls are mixes, and our recent adoption is around 42 lbs at around 9 months, and the vet thinks she may fill out but not really grow anymore. She is awesome with children, and while we haven't taken her to puppy classes, we do work with her at home.
Good luck! Rescuing is difficult but so worth it in the end, if you can find a good fit.
I understand the home visit part, I really have no issues there. It would be horrible to send an animal into a situation that may not be optimal for the owner or the dog. A lot of those dogs are bounced around a lot, so they want to make sure it is a good fit.
I don't know if any shelters in NJ do this, but Animal Friends provided a home-to-home adoption program. The shelter isn't involved except to connect people. We almost got a re-homed lab last year, but the guy was super flakey and we could never hook up to meet and introduce him to Murphy and Bruce. I got the feeling it was the husband's dog and the wife wanted him gone.
I'm actually not in the area (NY) although I do try to look at places in Pittsburgh too just in case. Although since I'm out of area not sure any would consider us.

I'm tIred and I feel like I'm always tired and can never catch up. I can't go to bed early because the house is perpetually messy and I can't ever, ever, ever get even a little bit close to caught up. We've agreed that it would be good to hire someone to clean once a month or so...but until the house is less cluttered and I finish moving my office out of Todd's room and get more toys up to his room, we aren't ready for outside help. And I can't ever finish the deccluttering/organizing projects because we aren't keep up with the basic chores...like laundry and dishes and food shopping.
I should have stayed home while my family went to MIL's on Saturday. :-(
