Help! I'm in charge of a going away party...

and I need ideas!

The party is for a co-worker who is leaving at the end of the month. She's moving about an hour and a half away to be with her boyfriend (soon to be FI) and so she's leaving the company.

I was just asked if I had any ideas for a small going away party that will take place tomorrow at 11:30AM (ahh) during our monthly meeting.  I should also mention that most of the "crew" bring their lunches and eat during the meeting.

Our company is small, we do construction so it's mainly guys working here so I'm in charge of this party.

I was thinking that I'd get some drinks (non alcoholic ones since everyone has to go back to work after the meeting) and maybe a few snacky type of things and a cake or cupcakes.

What else should I/we do? I don't think there's time for a gift, and I'm not sure what you'd get someone in this situations, its not like she's retiring or something....

  • I would say cupcakes because they are better for "on-the-go" but I can't be much more help than that :-  The only office parties I know about are the ones on "The Office" lol

  • We have little lunch parties a lot here at my work. I work at a mortgage company and we just send out an email and put up a sign up sheet for people to bring stuff. You could make a 'theme' of food to bring. Tacos, everyone bring one thing to make sandwiches. or just random stuff like chips and dips and little snack foods... little sandwhiches cut into fours.. just stuff like that. but your office being mostly guys, I dont know how great your selections would be LOL but maybe you could get the company to pay for Subway sandwiches and then everyone else bring the little sides?

  • I agree with you that there is not much time to get a gift, but maybe you could still get her a card and have everyone sign it

  • Thanks ladies!

I talked to the other woman in the office and we agreed on getting some nice cupcakes from a local bakery, a card, and some flowers. It was too short notice to do anything else really, but I think that the woman who's leaving will really appreciate the things we are able to do.
