Ok.. you read the title: seriously- maybe the lamest question ever... but-
When you make something in the crock pot/slow cooker and it calls for you to put chicken breast in raw (and it will cook over the 4-8 hour cook time) do you really put it in raw? Haha I told you it was dumb.. I understand what it calls for. I'm just always so scared that it wouldn't cook all the way through, I wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't cooked through (due to sauces or some other ridiculous excuse I have), and then everyone I'm serving is simultaneously barfing all over my house. Right? Haha surely not- but it's a real fear of mine!
I swear, I cook a lot, and I'm good at it! I'd just always cook the chicken, then put it in the crock pot so I'm not worrying about it all day/night. Should I really just put it in raw and stop being such a baby?
OK.... off to hide from imminent flames... ![]()
Re: Maybe dumbest cooking question ever- but I've gotta ask!
Ok thanks.
Guess I just needed that extra nudge to trust the slow cooker and throw the chicken in raw! Looking forward to NOT baking it before next time! Thank you!
this. I'm always scared I'm not going to cook meat thoroughly enough!

haha! ive asked that same question before!
raw it is.
Haha thanks ladies! For not flaming me, and for the advice! I'll throw it in raw- and if I'm still scared, I'll check the temp. Thanks again- I'll stop being such a baby!
I do this too. It's one of the reasons I love my crockpot.. I don't even need to defrost the chicken!
I've been using my crockpot for about 4 years and have never once had the chicken not cook all the way. In fact sometimes I will check on it and have to take it out earlier than the stated time.
If you're worried (and I think we all are!), I always cut one of the pieces of chicken in half before I take it out, just to check. I do this even when I bake it in the oven. Yea, one of us gets a piece of chicken already cut in half, but it's better than serving it without knowing that it is completely cooked!
