I hate when people screw with holiday weekends

So, get an invite for my grandmother's 80th birthday party thrown by her "family" and it is on the Sunday of Labor Day. Well not all of her "family" was told, my dad had no idea. Her birthday isn't until the 15th.

I really have issues with people thinking it is a great idea to have things on holiday weekend. This same aunt had her son's graduation party on the 4th weekend (as they did with all 5 of their kids).

If you are going to do something over a long weekend, notice of more than 10 days is required.

Okay, vent over. Proceed with your day. Stick out tongue

Re: I hate when people screw with holiday weekends

  • Agreed.  This drives me nuts as well.

My niece's dance recital was always on Memorial Day weekend which is when we all go away.  SIL and family had no choice but to stay behind.  It's really adorable to watch, and I hated having to choose between my holiday weekend and what someone else decided to ridiculously schedule.

... don't mess with my holiday weekends!!

ETA: It's a shame they didn't give you more notice.  Habitual holiday weekend planners!

  • Well, both of my boys were born over holiday weekends.

DS1 arrived the Sunday before Labor Day and DS2 arrived the day after Memorial Day.  I'm convinced I only have children during holidays!

It really sucks when trying to plan birthday parties!

Yep...dd is a memorial weekend baby.  I complained about that on a vent thread back in May. It sucks on the other end because I have to juggle so many people's plans and avoid memorial day. So it is super frustrating to work around a holiday weekend when you do want to plan something!

Our Labor day weekend this year consists of a wedding and a kid's bday party so clearly we are booked with obligations.

  • 10 days notice for something for your grandma is terrible!

I hate when people schedule holiday weekends, and don't get me started on required events during Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years.

Now, I'm having Jackson's party over Columbus day, but I don't count that as a "real" holiday.

  • ugh.  don't get me started on holiday weekends!  they are few and far between so don't mess with them!

Both myself and my H have holiday weekend birthdays, so we are usually on traveling/on vacation.  We have built in excuses to miss poorly planned family events :)

  • I had Liam's bday party over Memorial Day weekend, but that was because it actually worked out better for my BFF and IL's, who had to travel in from out of town.  And I gave plenty of notice....10 days notice is unacceptable, even if it's not a holiday weekend!!  The planner in me likes to have as much notice as possible to any kind of event :)

  • I probably wouldn't be as ticked off if

    A. they would have said something earlier and not just received an invite in the mail yesterday

    B. this same family didn't also have a graduation party on the weekend of the 4th

    C. my grandmother's birthday was actually during the weekend or even the same week, it isn't until the 15th.

On a side note, my sister wanted to get married on Labor Day weekend and my dad told her no, she wasn't ruining peoples holiday weekend with her wedding!
