I've had my mini freak out

So now I can start gathering information.  Please tell me what you know about Tulsa.  H has accepted a job offer there.  It's off of the turnpike apparently, so it takes him about 90 min to get there from our house.  He's going to commute for a while so he knows he enjoys it and we don't uproot our family before he's sure.  But everything points that it will be a good fit. (it's a job with the company we've worked for for the past 6 years).

Tell me about Tulsa, please?  (and maybe Bixby, Sapulpa, etc)Where to live, where NOT to live, shopping, things to do, your experiences?  I'm thinking we would move within the next year and I need to be prepared.  Sigh.  Freaking out again.  I'll probably DD this later.  We haven't told really anyone but family yet. (they aren't very pleased, which makes it hard to be positive).

  • Although I'm very sad that you might possibly move away from us I'm glad that this will be a great move for your family. That said, my ILS lived in Broken Arrow for about a year. I thought the town was beautiful the few times  we visted. Shopping wise you have a lot to do. We used to frequent Windsor Market and Utica Square. Also Jenks has some great antique shopping. And their is also an Amish community close by. My MIL bought a beautiful quilt from a shop and some perserves (they were delicious!). Also you would have the aquarium to take the kids to. I haven't been, but I have heard that it's great.

  • Honestly, I am so GD jealous. I would do about ANYTHING to move away!!

Tulsa is a great place to raise a family. Broken Arrow is where most of my buds live and they love it.  Jenks has really great schools as well, some of the best in the country. It is still super close to your family.  I would be excited. I love Tulsa.

  • I grew up in Tulsa and went to Jenks. Jenks, Broken Arrow, Owasso...all great. Bixby, Glenpool and Supulpa are also nice, just smaller. Really, just don't more to Northern Tulsa and you'll be fine. Tulsa is well laid out and isn't all that different from here.

  • I forgot--a good friend of mine just started teaching at Glenpool and she really likes the atmosphere and people. She lives in Sand Springs and really likes the area, she said there are lots of shopping options.

    Ditto all of this.

  • We looked into moving to Tulsa before I got a job in the metro. I LOVE Tulsa. My favorite surrounding towns were Broken Arrow, Owasso, and Jenks. South Tulsa is very nice too. My friends that lived in Tulsa said that North Tulsa was a no-no. I wasn't a fan of Sand Springs- too industrial.

  • I have never lived in Tulsa or the surrounding area but I go there quite a bit. My cousin lives in Kiefer which is about 15 mins from Tulsa and used to live in Sapulpa. He loves that area and his kids go to great schools. C's cousin lives in Jenks and loves it. I have not heard anything bad about Jenks; they have very good schools and housing. I agree with BobKat's vision of Sand Springs being too industrial. Mannford also has some great housing around Keystone Lake. There is a good amount of shopping in the Tulsa area and it's pretty easy to get around in.

I hope things work out for you all and you don't stress too much about the possibilty of moving.

  • I appreciate all of the info--it's very helpful!  I'm hoping we will be able to go Tulsa soon to scope out the areas.  I've already found a house that I love in Bixby (obviously we won't be buying it, but it's still fun to look!) so that's helped me be optimistic about moving.
