I did not get the computer job that I interviewed for yesterday. The super. told me to my face that I did not have enough of a math and science background needed for the position. She called me this morning and said she likes me so much that she wants me to work as a long term sub for this position because the person she hired is in a 60 day hold at their current district. She said if I take this long-term sub position then I will be their top choice of the next person to hire if a job comes up in the district. However, it's a small district and jobs don't come about too often. But that is still good news. I am happy. However, I am going to have to bust my butt at this long term job, which is only for 60 days, and I'm only getting $145 a day.
It feels good to be told by a superiendentent that she likes me and will hire me at some point for a full time position but I kind of wish that time was now. I'll have a great job but only for 60 days. Am I am fool for taking it?
Re: Turn of Events
I don't think you're a fool for taking it. I think it's a very smart decision. It will at least give you something school related for the next two months and it really gets your foot in the door at that location. Another teaching job might not come up for a while, but you'd be their first pick. That means something.
Maybe it will lead to other long-term sub positions as well until you can find your full time teaching position.
I think you would be crazy for not taking it! $145 a day is probably signifigantly more than what you are currently making. Its a great job and will look great on your resume for when you start looking for a perm position.
My DH started his teaching career as long term sub. He's been a perm teacher ever since.... and that was 7 years ago.
