Pregnancy Reading

I know many of you have suggested the Baby Bargains book, which I will definetly pick up.  Are there any other books/magazines you recommend?  TIA!

Re: Pregnancy Reading

  • I liked good old What to Expect When You're Expecting.  I didn't read it cover to cover, but more as a reference point week to week.

Also, the WTE app is cool for checking your progress, aka what fruit/veggie you are that week.  :)

  • I really enjoyed Ina May's Guide to Childbirth:  http://www.amazon.com/Ina-Mays-Guide-Childbirth-Gaskin/dp/0553381156.

It's totally hippie granola (which I am not), but there were parts of it that I found to be really helpful and calming. The focus is on the fact that our bodies were made to birth babies, and you CAN do it.

  • There is a book that goes with it, but I highly recommend watching The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD instead (it's about 30-40 min).  Dr. Karp's tips for getting a newborn to settle and go to sleep helped immensly those first few weeks.  We didn't watch it until two weeks after Jack was born but there was quite a difference in our approach to calming him and getting him to sleep at night.

I have this at the top of my Netflix queue currently.

I am liking WTE for general info.  I read it every few weeks to see what's going on down there.  I also use the app, which overlaps a lot of the same info in the book.

I have the Baby Center app and Sprout Lite app, too.
