We're under contract for a home. Our closing date is Sept. 28. So far we've had the inspection done and applied for the loan. At what point in the process is it ok to start packing? I don't want to count my chickens before their hatched...but at the same time my husband and I work full time and have a 7 month old son. Whenever I look around I start to panic at the thought of everything I need to get done!

Re: when to start packing?
I'm not going to lie, but we've already started packing and we just did our inspection last week. Our appraisal will be done next week, but we have a lot to pack and an awful work schedule for the next month.
I am really hesitant to do anything because we have already been burnt on another contract where the deal feel through due to the seller. It would be my luck to have it happen again though, however, we plan to move right away after closing.
We haven't been packing major things, just odds and ends that we don't use day to day. You could always start to pack up summer thing and start purging things you don't need. Think of it more as a "Fall Clean" instead of packing ; )
We had our inspection the end of June and probably started packing early-mid July (we closed July 30). We packed up a lot of the little things in July, but honestly, we still had quite a bit to pack in August. We were frantically throwing things in boxes the night before the movers came!
I would pack what you can--things you know you won't be using between then and now. Maybe set aside one hour a night for packing, for instance. Most likely, you'll still be packing up until you move because there are some things you use daily and can't pack them any sooner. But it does help to have drawers and closets cleaned out and packed, etc.
