LAX - restaurants?

We have a 4 hour layover at LAX this week. For those who pass through often, are there any decent restaurants we should check out? Also, does anyone happen to know if they have a children's play area?

  • If you have a smart phone there are apps for that
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

Thanks. I was hoping to get first hand recommendations since this board has been so helpful in planning all of my vacations in the past.

  • 4 hours is not very long. Los Angeles is very spread out so the chances of you leaving the airport to grab a great meal and make it back and not get stuck in traffic is pretty slim. I wouldn't take the chance.

Saying that, there is a great restaurant right in the center of LAX called the Encounter which has a great view (360 degrees) and the food is pretty decent. It is certainly an experience type of place. I seriously doubt that they have a children's play area though. Here is the link: http://www.encounterlax.com

  • I absolutely would not leave LAX for a four hour layover.  I know it seems like a long time but...yikes. My husband and I were in LA a few months ago and it took HOURS to get anywhere in the middle of the week. Traffic was awful.  Stay put.
  • i didn't read it that she wanted to leave the airport-but was looking for restaurants IN the airport.

ok but some of the apps are really helpful so you might want to check them out anyway.

I would definitely never leave LAX during a 4 hour layover. LOL The little I know about LA is that the traffic is horrendous. :) I was hoping there would be a decent restaurant at the airport (non fast food). :)

Thanks for the rec on Encounter!  We'd have to go through security to reach that location, but as long as it's open when we land, we should have enough time to check it out.

I was crossing my fingers that LAX would have a indoor children's playarea like Seattle, Chicago and a few other airports have, but it looks like I'm out of luck!

  • Not sure what terminal you're in (for an area for kids),but for food, try going to the international terminal (between 3 & 4). It's been a while since I've been, so I can't tell you specifics. But my dad was there not too long ago and said he found some good places there.

And definitely do NOT leave the airport for 4 hours. Frankly, I'm not even sure I'd leave for 8 (because of the time it would take to get to and from wherever and then go back through security again). =)

  • I don't remember the name of it but we ate at some seafood place near the Virgin America gates.  The food was over cooked & over priced but they did pour a huge glass of wine probably closer to 2 for 1.
