Umbilical hernia

DH has one. Yes, DH, not DS...

Turns out he's had it for months, and it is exactly what we expected to hear after it got painful enough for him to go to a doc yesterday. It doesn't need to be repaired right away... and it sounds like he's going to be out of commission for a week, maybe more. But we're both afraid that it will get worse and require immediate attention if he doesn't have it repaired soon. Right now we have the luxury of picking a "good" time to do it, although scheduling is going to be a nightmare. We'll have to make it work, though.

I have no idea how we're going to finish our long to-do list before LO#2 arrives now. Just trying to set small goals and not think about how overwhelming the bigger picture is right now.

Re: Umbilical hernia

  • Shannon had one, and we had it repaired back in December of this past year (at age 3yr 7mo). She was in pain for about 2 full days. By mid-day on the third day, we were seeing more glimmers of her personality and longer bursts of energy. And she began walking upright again about 3 days afterward.

There was a Nestie whose husband had his umbilical hernia repaired right.around the same time as Shannon last year. If you want any insight on a grown man's recovery, I can get her insight for you. But, I know his recovery was longer than Shannon's.

  • Ugh, that's what I keep hearing - harder recovery in adults. He's going to meet with a specialist, hopefully soon, so we'll get more details on just how bad it is and what the recovery is expected to be. Fingers crossed he can be out of work for only a week, and then work from home or take it easy at the office for a few weeks after that.
