WWYD?

So I ordered 2 pairs of heels online (free shipping both ways) to try for this wedding I am in on Friday.  I received one pair first, and they seemed comfortable when I put them on, but I got this brilliant idea that I would wear them around the house for 10-15 minutes to see if they were still comfortable.  So I wore them around while I was cooking dinner on the hardwood floor.

Fast forward, I got the other pair of shoes, like them a little better, and now I want to return this first pair.  I go to box them up, and see that the bottoms are discolored/slightly scuffed!  I panic and think, OMG they aren't going to accept them as a return...so I tried to clean one of them.  Which made it worse (the liquid cleaner seeped into the leather sole, and now it is slightly darker than the rest of the sole).  I then used a dry kitchen towel on the other one and got it better, but there is still a scratch on the leather...I mean it doesn't look like I wore them anywhere, but you can tell that someone has tried them on.

It isn't that I don't like this pair, it's that I don't need 2 pair of nude heels right now.  H and I are trying to save more money, and buying heels isn't helping!  Luckily they were a $150 pair of Ivanka Trumps marked down to $60 - but my worry is if I return then as is, they won't accept the return in the condition they are in (although I didn't actually wear them for more than 10-15 minutes, and not out of the house!).  I'm worried I'll be out of the money AND the shoes, whereas if I just keep them, at least I'll have the shoes.

WWYD?  Return them and hope they refund my money, or keep them?

Re: WWYD?

  • I probably wouldn't try to return the first pair, especially if you used a cleaner on them. I would either keep both pairs, or return the second pair. Even though you like them a bit better, at least you'll get some money back and you won't be aout $150 for two pairs of shoes you only need one of!

  • Have you talked to the place you bought them from? I know it was online but still. Tell them you tried them on in your house to see if they fit and everything and you have decided you don't want them but they have a "scratch" on them and you want to know if it will be a problem to return.

Maybe they will be nice and say oh it's no big deal but at least then you will know for sure.

Yeah, I figured someone would say that...but I LOVE the 2nd pair, and am definitely keeping them =]  I should have made that more clear!

  • if this un-named shoe website that you ordered them from was zappos, i would say SEND THEM BACK!!  zappos is amazing about returns.  even if they've been worn.  they have an outlet store in the city they're based in where they sell stuff like what you're talking about if they can't re-sell it on their site.  and worse case scenario, you send it back (free shipping) they refuse your refund based on the condition of the shoe, then they have to ship it back to you (free shipping again), and you'll have two super cute nude shoes.  maybe you could even sell them at a consignment shop for a little cash back?

    good luck :)

I WISH it were zappos!  I 99% of the time buy my shoes from there, but the one time I don't...

They are from endless.com, which is run by Amazon.

You can definitely tell I scrubbed one of them with a liquid cleaner!  Stupid me.

  • I honestly don't think they look that bad...I would give it a try. But it is up to you! Good luck!
  • Wow! I cant believe 10-15 minutes of wear around the house did that much scruff to the bottoms! Tongue Tied

  • bummer, i've never ordered from them, but i know Amazon's customer service is really good, so if they're a spin off of Amazon, then it may be ok.  You could still try returning them, just to see what they say.
  • In the pic they looked really worn...like you wore them outside worn lol....I would return them seeing as how you just got them and if they don't give you a refund i'm assuming they would send them back to you. They can't keep the shoes AND not refund the money can they???

  • I like comeongetdown's suggestion. Try to return them and if they won't take them try selling them at a consignment shop for a little cash back. You probably won't get $60 but it would be better than nothing!

  • If it were me, i'd probably just try to sell them online or at a consignment shop. That way whoever buys them.. you can explain the situation too, and maybe recover a good portion of your costs.. instead of waiting to see if you'll get your money back...

  • Try and return them.  If they don't accept them and send them back, there's always ebay.  You can sell just about anything there.

  • Maybe I am horrible, but I would call and say that you just opened them and they look like that and try to return them...

I might not lie and say this, but I would return them and include a note and/or call them and tell them that you only wore them around the house and that is what happened and that you are really unhappy with the quality (because seriously if you only did what you say you did with them...they shouldn't look like that) and want a full refund.

  • I say return them! Why not? You are supposed to try on shoes!
