Oh my God. So I have been a little itchy 'down there' the last few days and finally gave in to the idea that I had a yeast infection. I haven't had one in a while (thank goodness!), and last time (which was my first one ever), I went to the doc to get it checked out. She gave me a pill to take and some anti-itch cream and it was gone in three days. Knowing now that it was a yeast infection and not wanting to pay the $50 for the doctors visit and the meds, I decided to use an OTC yeast infection treatment.
NEVER AGAIN.
I tried Monastat 1 this morning, and I have never been in so much pain in my life. I was sitting in a meeting and felt like I was on fire - it was burning and itching so bad - I felt nauseous and had a terrible headache. It was quite literally the worst two hours I've ever felt (and I was stuck in a meeting for most of it). I went home at lunch and cried to H. I also googled it, and apparently it's a VERY common side effect! I can't believe this is actually a medication they sell to people when so many women have this reaction. I'm appalled.
Thankfully I'm feeling a lot better now (though still not fantastic), but I will never ever go through that again. It's worth the money to take care of it through my doctor.
Lesson - don't use Monastat 1. It's way too concentrated for most women's bodies. From everything I read, Monistat 3 and 7 are way better (though personally, I'm going to stick with the doctor from now on!)
Re: Way TMI, but...
Zomygod I can post and it isn't being all wonky.
I have had problems with over the counter meds before. Like you I was why on earth do they sell this?! Sorry you got so sick from it. I have never used it before but I will be sure to avoid it.
Hmm I have been tempted to use the 1 dose stuff just to get it done quick, but it was always more than I wanted to pay :P
Sorry you had to go through that.. thanks for letting us know!
Thanks for the heads up! I hope you feel better soon. I've only used the 7 and I think it was fine. I had just started dating DH at the time, though... and another word to the wise... don't do it while on it (maybe it says something about it in the directions... but I most likely didn't read).
It... um... greatly irritated DH's... um... part. I was so embarrassed to tell him that I had a YI that I let him believe it was just an irritation from friction. I think I finally fessed up about it in the past few months. LoL.
I have always had this happen when I use the 1 day (I get a lot of yeast infections...). I finally got smart and tried using the 3 day. No problems there! Sorry you had to deal with that!
