Err the search for daycares/nannies

I know I never post and really don't even lurk anymore, but I need to vent...

My daughter is 20 months old, since she was 8 weeks old I have put her with 3 home daycares, 1 facility daycare, and 1 babysitter.

My babysitter is a future sister-in-law and she is quitting. This pisses me off! She has been working for me since February and is practically our nanny. Because she is family we work around her schedule! I get off early just for her whenever she says when, she gets to come in late occasionally so she can sleep in, etc. I have pretty much have bent my schedule just so I can have one-on-one care for my daughter. I should have treated it more like business, but after my daycare experiences, I needed her. But it is becoming to much for her, so she quit. I have been left in a lurch and must find care ASAP.

Out of my daycare experiences, 1 is AMAZING! But we moved from Edmond to Moore, so really couldn't do the drive anymore. (I am now on her wait list because I am desperate!)  The other two were just horrible, great interviews, good vibes. Then when my daughter went there, I could tell she was getting ignored, etc. Then my facility daycare shut down with no notice.

So, in a nutshell I am screwed. My Edmond daycare has the availability to take her for a few weeks, but only until 3pm each day. Which gives us more time to look and more of my gas wasted, but I know she will be in good hands.

So, my need right now? Recommendations, please!  Yes, I know, look at DHS and Rainbow Fleet. I have done it every single time I looked for care. I call literally over 20 numbers a day to find out there are no openings, or set up interviews, and find horrific people out there.

I would really truly appreciate hard fact recommendations. I am willing to do facility or at home daycares, even a nanny. I can do Mon-Wed or all week depending on what I can get. I live in Moore, but could do care from Moore, SW OKC, and NW OKC.

I know I probably won't get any tips on places or people. But really, if you know anyone please PM me! I am so frustrated, heart broken, etc. that I am to the point of quitting my job, because really good caring individuals is hard to find. (I can't afford to quit my job, just btw)

Re: Err the search for daycares/nannies

  • First, check out the DHS website. They rate both centers and home daycares and include information from recent inspections.

Second, I have firsthand experience with 3 daycare centers in the Moore / South OKC area. One I would definitely recommend against (New Horizons / Childcare Network) and one I would recommend (Broadway Kids - it doesn't look amazing, but our experience there was all positive and they allow drop in care so you could use them short term until you find a final solution and try them out that way).

  • Care.com or sittercity.com are good places to start if you're interested in one-on-one nannies. After that, I got nothin. Our daycare is good, not great, but Wichita Falls would be a VERY long drive for you everyday! Good luck!
The length of a minute depends on which side of the bathroom door you are standing on! Photobucket
What do you mean that's the wrong side? Tastes great to me!

I know the owner of Broadway Kids very well, I won't say who she is but she's a family member. She sold the daycare a year or two ago. Wendy - when was your experience there? I just wanted the OP to know they switched owners and I know nothing about the new ones. I'm glad to hear you had a good experience there though, she really worked hard to make the daycare great.

It was very recent (as in he just quit going there a week and a half ago when school started) and he really only attended there about 6 months.  We will go back during holidays / summers I'm sure.  I'm not sure I ever met the owner unless the director Amy was also the owner?

No, Amy isn't the owner but she did work there whenever the previous owner owned it. Just glad to hear they're keeping it up well over there :)
