Personal Time on Computer at work

So I have a side job, right now I have two clients, they take MINIMAL time, but like to email back and forth several times in the morning. The problem is that I have my day job during this time. If it's a long email or a phone cal l(unless very brief) I always wait for it to be after my work hours, but how bad am I emailing them and nesting for that matter during work time. I figure I'm using 10 minutes an hour on personal computer stuff. Thoughts?

  • Eh I've always muti tasked real work and online work. As long as real work is done right and timely.

I agree. I don't spend much time chatting at people's desks or wandering the halls in my office (am I a hermit?), so I see my online time as my "break" time. As long as you get your work done and are doing a good job, I don't see any reason why you can't send a few emails or do a few personal things at work.

  • I agree with pps.  Sometimes I need a mental break and just being on The Nest or checking my e-mail or reading an article on philly.com is just that.   My desk is usually clear or almost clear every night when I leave.  Multitasking is key lol.

  • I agree with others as long as you are doing your job some personal computer time is fine. I would only be concerned if your main job has any policies about doing work for a second job during work hours or with company equipment.  At my company that is a big no no. Personal is okay, but not business (or political or anything in that vein).
