clicky poll: when is an acceptable time to fire up lawn care equipment?

Just curious, as Brian and I have different opinions on this matter :)  What time on a weekend do you consider it to be an acceptable time to start lawn care? (lawn mower, weedwhacker, leaf blower, etc....)

Re: clicky poll: when is an acceptable time to fire up lawn care equipment?

  • I picked 8 and 9, although our lawn is usually still wet then. So we don't cut that early. But in the old neighborhood it was not uncommon for the man on the street who cut a lot of the older residents lawns along with his own to be out for 8am starting his circuit of lawn care for the day. It never bothered us.
  • I voted 9-10.

But, at our old house where our neighbors were serial welfare cases who didn't work and were up all night drinking and smoking on their porch right outside our bedroom windows, DH typically started doing yardwork as soon as Brinley woke up.  Which at that time was often around 6:00am.Surprise

He also on occasion, after a particularly bad night, would fire up the chain saw to trim some bushes. Devil

  • I would say any time after 8 is reasonable, but my personal preference would be after 9.  And before 8?  Well, I hope you aren't my neighbor if you think that is a normal time to use loud machinery! I am by no means a morning person, and should not be messed with before 8am!  =)

Aren't there noise ordinances stating the times that you are allowed to use things like lawn mowers, etc.?

I'm not sure about a noise ordinance, I'm sure there's something.  He wanted to fire up the lawn mower at 8:15am last weekend, and I told him that he needed to hold off until closer to 9am, I felt like that was a fair time, and reminded him that not everyone had kids who were up at 6am on a Saturday Stick out tongue

ETA-if he had his way, I think he would be out there by 7am just to get it out of the way, but I don't think he'd ever actually do it at that time.

  • I wish I could mow my lawn at 7.  I hate that I have to wait till a respectable time, because I like just getting it over with.  I usually go for a run around 7 on Saturdays, come home, weed and whenever I'm done with that, I start up the lawn mower.  Usually that's around 8:15ish, so I am done by 9.  I know that a lot of my neighbors are up by that point, because they are outside doing work/are out with their dogs.  If I lived in a neighborhood with more kids, I would probably wait longer, but we live in an older neighborhood.

  • Sorry, but if it's before 9 a.m., you are sort of an a$$hole in my book.

I'll give Brian that piece of info when he's staring at the clock next weekend, counting down to 9am! :)

He ought to at least go around to the neighbors with a pitcher of booze shakes after committing such indecency.

  • My kids don't get up until 8am on the weekends.  Some times 8:30 if they were up late the night before.  If you mess with my chance to sleep to 8:30, I WILL be angry!  There is nothing I hate more than waking up to the sound of a chain saw or other annoying power equipment.

don't give him any ideas!  He would do that, any excuse to make concoctions at the bar.

I will admit that I cringed on Sunday when I heard the power saw in the driveway cutting baseboard at 8:45, though. LOL
