Question for you local ladies :) Clicky Poll

Hi ladies! I don't know who else to ask this to, just thought you gals would be a good start. I'm an Edmond local, but don't post here much- usually more on D&R. But you ladies seem kinda fun- I might have to come back for a visit! Anyways.. to my question:

How much would you, as a parent, pay monthly for your child to attend music classes? I'm not a parent, so I don't know. I'm teaching music lessons a bit on the side, have an idea in my head of what to charge, and what parents have already agreed to pay. I was just seeing in an open forum what you would expect to pay. 30 minute lessons, once a week. I charge $15 a lesson. Sound about right?

I'm trying really hard not to cross the line of "plugging myself". And believe me, I'm not (didn't even say what kind of lessons they are). If I was, I'd do something awesome like link my website but alas, that's not necessary. I just wanted your opinion. Thank you!! Smile

  • Hi there! I have seen you over on the D&R board and have wondered why you haven't stopped by to say hi!

I used to take piano lessons in the early 90s.  The price increased as I got better and better. I think, in 1994, my parents were paying $30 per 30 minute piano lesson (professional). I believe they paid $15 per 30 minute saxophone lesson (OU Student).

  • What kind of credentials do you have? If you have a music degree I think you could get away with charging more. I think when I took piano lessons my parents paid $15/30 mins when I first started. As I progressed and changed to a highly sought after teacher it was closer to $45/30 mins.
  • And your dog is freaking adorable!
  • I think that's a fair price, but depending on your credentials, I would pay more.

Come hang out on the board now and then!

  • Thanks so much for all the help ladies! And for the doggie love. Smile

I don't have any formal credentials. I have a degree but not in music. I've been teaching (very casually) for 3 years. And took lessons for about 13 years and played competitively for 11. But thanks for all your input! I'll leave the price like it is now, and if someday I become a big shot, I'll look at upping it. Thanks again ladies! I'll have to come hang out more!!
