Clutch your pearls ladies
I just got a party invite. It's BYOB, bring a covered dish, and bring your own meat to grill. I get doing a party on a budget and having easy entertaining, but that's a bit much no?
Re: Clutch your pearls ladies
So, all they're providing is the venue? What's the party for?
exactly!
Agreed and we will be staying home. I don't have a problem at all with a potluck or BYOB. I've heard about the BYOmeat thing, but find that really gross. To be asked to bring everything doesn't sound fun at all.
I have no problem with BYOB or potluck for a casual get together amongst close friends, but being asked to bring both is a little much. And I can't even wrap my head around the BYOM request. I recall seeing a blog or post earlier this summer for a seafood boil that suggested guests bring their own meat if they wanted something other than seafood, and even that didn't sit right with me.
Um, no.
I'm ok with BYOM for a cul-de-sac party or something like that, so one person isn't stuck with the cost, but not for a party-party.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
The only way to make that inoffensive in a non-block-party setting is to throw a "Will It Grill?" party (see also: Will It Fry? Will It Blend?) and ask guests bring their most unusual grillable, like venison steaks or ribs in bulgogi marinade, or whole stuffed fish.
And at such a party, the hosts need to step up with all the sides.
