Interesting narrowing of polls

I've been tracking the RealClearPolitics averages since June 24, and there's been definite movement in Romney's favor.  It's hard for me to understand the confidence, in some case cockiness or taunting, that some Obama fans have when the polls are so close and within the margin of error. Ohio, Florida, Colorado, Iowa, Virginia, and Michigan at this point are under 2 points.  Those are all states carried by Obama, and I have to believe that if people are not sold on him by now, they're not going to be come election day.  Independents seem to be siding with Romney.

I wonder if the only reason why this is even close is because the effectiveness of newly elected Republican governors in swing states like Florida, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Virginia has taken the sting out of Obama's faulty economic decisions.

In the Senate races, Ohio and Connecticut recently moved from leaning Dem to tossup.  Connecticut!!  I know it's because they have a candidate in CT who misses meetings, but still.  Nevada and Wisconsin have also moved from tossup to leaning Republican.  About the only good news on the Senate front for Democrats comes with Todd Akin, and that would be Republican, too, if he would have the grace to step down.

Interesting.  I don't think anyone can say with confidence what will happen in Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin, Florida, and Iowa.  Wonder what will be more effective with swing voters come October and November, talk of the economy and jobs, or a faux "war on women" that has already become settled law or close to it.  Hard to say... or not.

I will tell you this,  if Romney pulls this off, in the words of Marion Cotillard receiving her Oscar for La Vie en Rose, it will have "made my life."

Re: Interesting narrowing of polls

  • People have proof  in the newly elected Republican governors that the "Republican way" can make a positive difference.  The vote will be determined on whether people are willing to see a future with more of the same from Obama or go in a new direction with someone who actually has leadership experience and success in making positive changes .

I definitely see more trending toward Romney as the election gets closer.

Dems are looking desperate to me.

  • I agree that Romney is closing in and on the cusp.  As Kristol says, it's his race to win.

The only problem is that we need to get a number of swing states; they only need to get one.  (Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Wisconsin)

I'm really watching FL, OH, VA, and WI.  If we get those, Romney's president.

  • I'm very heartened that Iowa is continuing to narrow.  It's getting closer.  We also have typically democratic states where the senate races are increasingly favoring the Republicans.  Just look at the recent polls that have McMahon ahead of Murphy in Connecticut.  Look at Tommy Thompson kicking Baldwin's butt, look at Scott Brown holding his own against Elizabeth Warren (gave $25 for that campaign, maybe more on the way), look at Heller pulling out the lead on Berkley in Nevada.Wisconsin and Nevada just went from tossup to leaning Republican.

Isn't it something that there's a presidential election in November, and there is JUST ONE Republican seat that is in doubt, and that's the Scott Brown one. (I don't count Indiana because it's too red this time to go for Donnelly even if people would've preferred Lugar.)
