Would you consider leaving your teaching position in the middle of the school year, if it was to obtain a position that gets you closer to your goal (financial, family, relocation, etc.?)
Here's the scoop. DH and I desperately want to return to our home state which is about 300 miles from where we are now. Over the past 2 years we have applied to anything and everything we are even remotely qualified for. Over the summer I interviewed (one of 5 selected from 50+) for a position I would LOVE to have. (It's not teaching related) - but the position was filled. I got an email from the HR dept that said the position was being reposted and previous applicants were encouraged to reapply. This job is where I want to work (the university Dh and I both went to), in the city/state we desperately want to live in again and is more in the payscale I would like to make considering my education, etc.
So, on the off chance I am actually chosen for an interview again - AND selected, would you leave in the middle of the year? The position closes tonight - and I don't know if I should even apply - if I wouldn't even leave to take it.
I do the job I do because I love the kids. That's all. But, when does my life/needs/wants become more important? And how do I not worry about my principal being mad at me (childish I know). I know at the end, she would be happy for me - she knows that's our ultimate goal...but I am also a little afraid of telling her I would leave.
This is all putting the cart before the horse - as I haven't even applied (again), nevermind been offered the job!
Re: Teachers...leave in the middle of the year?
I think you have every right to leave in the middle of the year if it will benefit your family. Yes, it may set the kids back a little because they will have to get used to a new teacher, but there are so many teachers out there that would like to be working that could fill your spot. I understand the interview process you're going through...One school I interviewed had 37 applicants (I was one of six that got called) and another had 68 (I was one of nine that got called). It's a rough market right now, so if you want to move and it would be the best for your family you have to do that.
