My IUD experience so far.... possibly TMI

Hey ladies...

I know contraception has been a hot topic for us and when i mentioned i was getting an IUD a little while ago some of your said to let you know how it went.

First.. I love my doctor.. she made the experience as "enjoyable" as it could be. After insertion, which aside from some pressure i didn't find to be a painful experience, i has some mild cramping. That night I experienced (only twice) what was like a decently bad menstral cramp.. but other than that i just felt a little pressure in my abdomen for a few days, but no really bad cramps.

Since then, i've discovered how much the pill actually screwed with my body. I was having stomach "problems" and problems having bowel movements. Or i'd feel, and typically at night, that I constantly had to have a bowel movement. I'd notice that this feeling went away during the weeks that I had my period. Never really attributed it to my pill though. Well... i haven't had that feeling since not taking my pill. I also noticed i'm not as gas-y.

I'm also not as tired lately.

As for my sex drive... i'm not like.. ready to pounce him the minute he walks through the door, but it's improved. I've been able to "get in the mood" a lot faster lately, and i've been thinking about sex more lately.. which i figure is a good thing.

I haven't had my "first period" yet. So i'm not sure how that's going to be... but my doc said spotting the first month was a good possibility and i've had none of that so far.. so we'll see waht happens.

It's also a great money saver! $85.00 for me and it's good for 5 years. Granted i'm in Canada (so the only cost to me for it was to actually purchase the IUD)... but still! Pills for me were $20/month.  This is fabulous!

I'd recommend it... i like the idea of not ingesting hormones every day...can't wait for my body to adjust back to normal totally. I'm really happy so far!

  • I'm happy you are happy with it.  I'm still a little scared of the IUD

  • Did you do Paraguard or Mirena?

  • I"m glad it went well.  I had spotting for a few weeks then didn't have a period for two years.  When it did turn up, it was so super light, I was able to use panty liners.

  • i'm not sure what it was.. it's a non-hormonal one.. neither of those names ring a bell... we get different brands in Canada.. and to be honest.. i didn't really pay attention... i just know it was a hormone free one

  • Glad to hear an update!  I am due for my yearly in a couple of months, and I think I'm going to go for the non-hormonal IUD if my physician thinks I'd be okay to get one.
