I was going to go for a walk
But then I remembered the west Nile outbreak and decided to stay in. Honestly, I don't watch the news so I've just caught bits and pieces---how paranoid should I be? Should I skip mine and G's morning walks or go for it? What about being outside during the evening?

Honestly, we are going out for walks in the evening without even applying bug spray. I am more concerned about the chemicals in the bug spray than I am about the likelihood of anyone in my family becoming seriously ill from West Nile Virus, since it usually is only serious in people over 50. About 80% of people who contract West Nile don't even have any symptoms at all.
West Nile is more dangerous for the elderly, infants, and the infirm.
A safe way to keep mosquitoes away from you is to rub a Bounce dryer sheet on yourself. If you hit the hot spots -- neck, wrists, ankles -- it should keep them at bay. I tried this once while sitting with my mom on the porch while she was smoking. Smoking will keep them away usually, but I assume you don't want to go that route
Well, the mosquitoes left me alone and attacked my mom all over, despite the cigarette smoke. And I am a mosquito buffet. Those things just love me.
I don't know why it worked, but it did. I've been thinking about taking up running again and bought a box of dryer sheets specifically for that purpose!
I tried a Bounce dryer sheet once, and it sadly did not work for me at all. I was really hoping it would, too. Mosquitos *love* me and DS. I hate putting spray with DEETon him, but I will if we are out after dark. He gets huge bites otherwise. I have some natural bug repellent, but the smell of it is so strong it gives H a headache when we get in the car and sometimes the smell makes me nauseous.
