Re: (Untitled)

  • I've been to 2 AIs.  One was in Mazatlan, Mexico - I went on a last minute whim with some people I was in college with, mainly because I wanted to get away and because it was a good deal.  The food was very mediocre.  The resort was okay, it wasn't super clean but it wasn't super gross, either.

The other was Sandals in St. Lucia for our honeymoon.  Overall I thought the food was good and honestly it was better than I was expecting.  We went with an AI mainly because I was too preoccupied with wedding planning to really plan out an entire trip - meals, restaurants, transportation, etc.

That being said, both experiences/resorts were VERY different despite both being AIs.  I don't think you can group all AIs into the same category - that'd be like saying every hotel is the same (IE, Motel 6 vs. Ritz-Carlton).

If you are only going for 4 days, it might be worth trying an AI to see how you guys like it (as opposed to when you go somewhere for a week or more).  If you just want to relax, are going to spend most of your time at the resort, and/or are going to a foreign country, an AI might be more convenient.  If you want to eat at a lot of places off the resort & venture outside the resort a lot (IE, spend a lot of money outside the resort) it might not be worth it.  AI are also nice if you are working with a strict budget - you'll know upfront how much it is going to be, because you aren't spending an arbitrary amount on food/drink for every meal.

All in all, AI wouldn't necessarily be my first choice, but I wouldn't count it out if I was looking for a no stress-trip, either with planning or when I got there.
