I really need entertainment today so does anyone have any random topics to discuss?
I just read this article, and while I agree with the basic ideas, can I just say that Jenni Carlson has to be one of the worst writers in the history of ever. I can't believe she gets paid for this sort of 'journalism'
Re: You guys, I'm so bored
I didn't read that particular article but I agree that Jenni is the worst sports writer EVER and am not sure how she hasn't been canned yet.
Okay, I read the article and she doesn't seem to get the underlying problem: Does she think Gundy and Stoops want to play Savannah State and Florida A&M? NO. Do they have a choice? No. OU offered Boise State nearly $1mm TO COME TO OUR STADIUM TO PLAY US (because they were in the media whining about their strength of schedule) and they turned us down flat, didn't even BOTHER TO SPEND FIVE MINUTES CONSIDERING THE OFFER. These "low level" teams play us because a. they get paid to do so and b. they don't care if they lose. It isn't fair to OU and OSU either, if you want to get really honest about it.
I am fired up today peeps, watch out!
I'M feisty today too (and for no real reason).
Om the second page she vaguely said she gets why it happens, but from the commentary about the press conferences the coaches are still clearly depicted as the bad guys. Should they have cancelled those games and played nobody?
I don't think awful begins to even cut it. That's ridiculous.
my bookshelf!
Bloggy
I've kind of wondered if my opinion about her was biased since she was the one who wrote the article that led to Gundy's "I'm a MAN! I'm 40!" speech. So, I'm glad it's not just me who thinks she's terrible.
Although, I will admit that I've read a couple articles she's written over different players that have made my eyes water...
Let's be feisty together.
Ever since the Gundy incident, I have had a sour taste in my mouth for her. I don't think I even noticed her until then but felt that article was so inappropriate (and I am not sure Gundy's reaction was appropriate either but I certainly understand where that reaction was coming from and so therefore that makes it "okay") that I find that I am CONSTANTLY mentally picking on her so I just ignore her. I will say the good thing that came out of the Gundy incident is that he somewhat picked on her for being fat and she used it as an incentive to get healthy. ((Trying to say something nice...))
But really, anyone have anything else going on today? How was your weekend? Was it productive? Lazy? Fun?
I went to the OSU game, ran some errands, and got a bunch of wedding stuff done. I still managed to spend a lot of lazy time too.
This weekend DH and I found out we are old people. We went to Ft Worth Saturday for the night. We met DH's friend and his gf. That night we went to Sundance Square ate way too much food. By this time it's only around 7. We really have no idea what else to do. (To be fair when we lived there 4 years ago we didn't do much). We went to this gaming place where they have pool, shuffleboard, and bowling. We stayed there and had drinks until about 8:30. We all decided that bed sounded much better than dealing with the teeenagers running around. DH and I get back to our hotel room , watch some of the OU game, and then crashed. We are LAME! Thankfully DH's friend was the same way so I didn't feel to bad.
It was a GREAT weekend. We basically had a staycation - got all of our grocery stuff done Friday night so we could stay in all weekend and not have to leave. My work-life balance is going to be extremely tilted toward "work" until around October 31, so I actually allowed myself to really relax and enjoy the weekend which was nice. I spent most of the weekend reading out by the pool...this time of year always makes me a little sad with the days getting shorter, etc etc...
I agree about that article.. Yikes.
This weekend was filled with family time... Dinner with both parents separately and together. So that's 3 dinners... it was a lot of family time- but always good. Other than that, I don't feel like we got a ton done... oops.
Yeah, I can't contribute much to the previous discussion re: sports journalism.
I'm bored too...got a baby who won't nap, and I need to be prepping for school tomorrow, but am procrastinating.
We had a busy weekend. We sanded and painted the cabinets and trim in the guest bath over the three days. We'll do the walls next weekend. Went to a friend's 30th birthday party Saturday night, and Sunday we hung out with family and friends by the pool.
We only watched 30 minutes of the game before we went to bed. We went to a friend's 30th birthday party that was from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday night before the OU game. Funny how things change once we all have kids. Two years ago, the party wouldn't have started until 8 p.m.
We were in Tulsa until Saturday morning and got home around noon. Lazed around Saturday. Sunday we went to the lake and my family had a huge fish fry with seriously every dang family member ever...it was fun but chaotic. Yesterday we came home and were lazy again. H mowed the yard and that's really the only thing we got accomplished. This morning we went to the anatomy scan for midget 2.0 and confirmed we do, in fact, have a girl on the way. A hair bow is en route to my place as I type!
Here's a potential topic for discussion - did you guys see that Jevontai Ingram who had a gun when he attempted to rob that Reliable Pharmacy, has now been released from juvenile detention? Here's the story on newsok - http://newsok.com/teen-who-robbed-jerome-erslands-pharmacy-no-longer-in-custody/article/3706705
He says he wants to go to college and become a probation officer when he grows up. Personally, I think it's scary someone like him is free to roam around given that the article really doesn't make it seem like he fully understands or cares about the impact of his crime. Not to mention, he thinks he can just enroll in any high school and they'll take him. Clearly, he's a candidate for taking the GED... god knows I would not want my child to have sit in class with an armed robber. And how in the world would someone like him be able to go to college? (good lord, the college essay alone would kill his chances given how bad his english is!) Can a college not look into his past and determine that someone with his background would be a threat on campus? I'm all for rehabilitation and if he can turn his life around into something positive, that would be wonderful. But chances are, based on the answers in his interview, he's going to blow his probation and be back behind bars.
Well, POs are CLEET certified peace officers officially (and therefore armed), so no, I don't think that's a possibility for him, legally speaking.
I do think it's likely that he's going to face a lot more challenges than he realizes based on his background, but maybe Pheonix has a criminal justice program that turns away noone. (same for 'online high school')
The kitchen is on hold until 2013
We're doing the guest bath in pieces....painting cabinets/woodwork and walls, removing sliding shower doors, and framing mirror this month. Updating fixtures in there after we do kitchen and half bath in 2013 (off kitchen, it has that awful cabinet finish too.) We think we're going to paint the cabinets and trim in the kitchen ourselves...we're nuts. But we'll hire out texturing the walls and installing countertops, and possibly get some cabinets rebuilt. I found someone that might buy our old range.
I'm about 90% certain we're going to get our stained concrete in the living re-done in October. We've been going back and forth between stained concrete and cork floors. I think we're going to go with the concrete for resale (blank slate essentially) and so we don't have different types of wood floors. I just wish the previous owners hadn't done such a horrible DIY job on it and had just left the carpet there instead of ripping it up and trying to stain the concrete themselves.
So, I had all of this advice typed here and then decided that you probably don't want it! It is a process, it takes time, just be as patient as you can, and ENJOY it. I am so sad our house is mostly done. I am ready to buy another!!
And since you didn't exactly as for my advice
when you are ready to paint the kitchen cabinets and have the new ones rebuilt, let me know. I helped a friend repaint hers about six months ago and have a pretty solid plan. I also have a cabinet guy that is super super awesome (and very inexpensive) that I can recommend!
I probably want any advice you have re: renovations!
Thanks so much for your words though. You are right-->it is a process, and it does take time. I need to enjoy it!
Don't you have stained concrete in your house? Did you find it cold this winter?
We do have stained concrete in SD and the guest bedrooms (thanks cats!). We stained the concrete this past spring, so I am not sure what it will be like in the winter but I am rug wh0re and plan to add a few here and there. I do think our hardwood floors get somewhat chilly in the winter, but again, rugs. I am naturally extremely warm blooded so I don't mind the colder floors.
The entire situation is really sad to me. I get why Ersland is in prison and he would have been better off if he would have STFU. And had a decent attorney.
However, I do know the kid that was recently released has a very low IQ - in the low 70s, maybe. I think this is part of the reason why he was released so early - because it was determined he really didn't have the sound mind to know what he was doing was wrong. Which kind of makes the entire situation even scarier, you think?
